Unique entry level Distribution Engineering Technician role located in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Both Washington, D.C. and Richmond, VA are a 2 hour drive away. Company serves a host of larger industrial customers in addition to our solid base of commercial, retail and housing markets. We serve approximately 22,000 customers within the 17 sq. mile city limits and has a winter peak load of 150 MVA, operates and maintains 10 distribution substations, a 23 kV distribution system, 69 kV transmission system and 30 MW of peaking generation.
Responsibilities include:
Engineering of distribution system improvements
Work directly with developers and industrial accounts to ensure adequate and reliable power availability
Responsible for distribution engineering activities, overhead and underground, relating to residential, commercial and industrial growth as well as utility relocations resulting from road widening and construction
Candidate must be knowledgeable or willing to learn about load management, SCADA operations and mapping using an AutoCAD based system
Investigating and responding to customer questions and complaints in a timely manner
Working closely with Line, Substations, and Generation crews
Able to make informed immediate decisions in emergency or highly stressful situations
Experience with GIS data gathering preferred but not required
Excellent oral and written communication skills are a must in order to deal with a wide range of personalities both inside and outside the organization
Perform other duties as assigned
Position prefers experience in a utility related field.
