Job Description:

HumCap's client is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and development of innovative consumer and commercial products. This role requires a creative problem-solver with strong technical expertise and a passion for delivering high-quality, manufacturable designs. This position will play a key role in product development, from concept to production, collaborating across teams to ensure engineering excellence.

Essential Functions
  1. Apply knowledge of conventional and computer-aided design (CAD) techniques, manufacturing processes, and materials to develop high-quality mechanical components.
  2. Execute detailed mechanical design tasks with precision, ensuring manufacturability and durability.
  3. Develop and refine component layouts, assemblies, and full system designs.
  4. Conduct testing, analyze results, and compile comprehensive reports to validate design performance.
  5. Plan and execute project tasks strategically, meeting objectives and deadlines efficiently.
  6. Assist in product and process certification for customer acceptance and compliance.
  7. Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and other associates to ensure designs meet all project and product standards.
  8. Work closely with suppliers to ensure compliance with product and project requirements.
  9. Identify opportunities for technical improvements by leveraging advanced mechanical engineering principles.
  10. Independently contribute to smaller projects, driving innovation and efficiency in mechanical design.
  11. Support problem-solving and continuous improvement efforts in product development.
  12. Ensure compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and industry standards.

Required Education and Experience
  1. Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering required.
  2. Minimum five (5) years of experience in product design, with expertise in 3D CAD modeling and layout (SolidWorks preferred).

Skills & Qualifications
  1. Strong background in designing consumer or commercial products with an emphasis on aesthetics, functionality, and manufacturability.
  2. Experience designing parts for plastic injection molding and various metal fabrication processes, including casting, sheet metal forming, and machining.
  3. Proven ability to develop functional, high-quality, and visually appealing designs.
  4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  5. Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams, working with engineers of various disciplines, as well as marketing, manufacturing, and leadership.
  6. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present complex ideas clearly.
  7. Experience contributing to projects, meeting deadlines, and driving designs from concept to production.
  8. Experience with performing FEA as needed to meet design and functional requirements preferred
  9. Knowledge of standard laboratory test methods for mechanical functional parameters preferred.

Work Environment
  1. Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office/production setting with adequate ventilation and moderate noise
  2. May work with or near moving mechanical equipment

Physical Demands

Moderate physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of a productive/technical nature to work from a sitting or standing position.
  1. Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers
  2. Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crouch
  3. Must be able to sit for long periods of time
  4. Must be able to lift up to twenty pounds, with or without assistance
