Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Senior Buyer to manage inventory levels, optimize purchasing operations, and ensure adherence to company quality standards. The ideal candidate has a robust background in food procurement, excels in a fast-paced environment, and is capable of delivering exceptional results under pressure.
Key Responsibilities:
Place replenishment orders to maintain adequate inventory levels.
Manage inventory levels and turns to ensure budgeted service levels and financial targets are achieved.
Ensure that purchased products meet quality and company-approved specifications.
Communicate market cost changes to Branch General Managers and involve them in strategic pricing decisions when appropriate.
Oversee branch inventory levels for assigned vendors using tools such as the MARS forecasting module and relevant reports.
Calculate economic order quantities, prepare and place purchase orders, and review vendor confirmations for accuracy.
Maintain accurate product and freight costs through timely updates in the NDS system.
Negotiate, analyze, and secure financially advantageous transportation and purchase orders from approved suppliers.
Ensure freight discounts and opportunities are leveraged for the company's benefit.
Monitor margin, service level, obsolescence, and inventory turn results, and implement corrective actions when needed.
Maintain purchasing data fields in MARS (e.g., order fill percentages, lead times) to meet customer satisfaction goals.
Analyze results of physical inventory counts and cycle counts, identify deficiencies, and resolve them.
Collaborate with sales, accounting, and warehouse departments to maintain proper inventory and cash flow.
Address defective or unacceptable goods or services, determining root causes and implementing corrective actions.
Provide timely follow-up to customer inquiries and ensure their satisfaction.
Uphold company policies, procedures, and safety rules consistently.
Requirements:
10-20 years of experience as a Senior Buyer in the food industry.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Intermediate to Advanced Excel, including VLookup, formulas, and other functions).
Thorough understanding of ERP or MRP systems.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Proven experience in food procurement, ideally as a Buyer or Demand Planner.
Exceptional analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
Must pass a proficiency test in MS Office applications.
Compensation:
The starting salary range for this position is $59,000, with final compensation based on experience and qualifications.
