Brown & Brown is seeking an Employee Benefits Technical Analyst to join our growing team in Portland, OR!
The primary role of an Employee Benefits (EB) Technical Analyst is to become efficient in providing financial and underwriting calculations, claims utilization, and benefit plan cost analysis services to our employee benefit plans. In addition, under supervision and training, an EB Technical Analyst learns to perform a variety of technical assignments: auditing, plan designing, marketing, pricing, experience entry, rate development, cost forecasting/projections, health plan statistical analysis, and rate and service fee negotiations with carriers and service vendors.
How You Will Contribute:
Attend training sessions and/or courses to develop skills and pursue insurance related designations
Use report templates for: renewal analysis, benchmarking, trend surveys, requests for proposals, proposal analysis, annual report, and other routine customer work such as experience reports
Review and with guidance analyze and provide interpretation of technical issues relating to employee benefits and new insurance products and/or services
Provide technical assistance for special projects and/or services including rate calculations, cost projections, financial settlement, analysis, alternative funding options, and alternative plan designs
Supply service team with customers' financial impact and information related to the laws and regulations (state and federal) impacting group health and welfare benefit plans from generated reports
Work with the service team to proactively manage assigned accounts
Assist Technical Consultant(s) with internal technical training
Presents to customers under the supervision of a Technical Consultant
Support Technical Consultant(s) when they are conducting carrier seminars on technical issues
Keep current on marketplace changes and inform customers as necessary
Licenses and Certifications:
Must have, or obtain within the six (6) months, a current Life & Health Insurance License in required states
Skills & Experience to Be Successful:
Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) with two (2) years of experience in the field of employee benefits group, employee benefits brokerage, and/or health plan underwriting; other combination of work and/or education will be considered
In-depth knowledge and understanding of group health and welfare benefit plan coverages, current legislation, rules, laws, other regulations, insurance plans, underwriting principals, selection, pricing, rating, and premium calculation
Fluent with Microsoft products such as Office365, Windows, Word, and Excel
AMS & BenefitPoint experience or skills to learn software at an accelerated ability
Proficient with Microsoft products such as Outlook, Excel, and Office365
