The Transportation and Logistics Manager is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end movement of freight, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery to customer sites. This role plays a critical part in optimizing transportation strategies, managing budgets, and resolving logistics challenges. The manager will develop and execute strategies to meet both short- and long-term transportation needs while establishing and monitoring key performance indicators to drive efficiency across the supply chain. In addition to leading a team, this role involves fostering strong relationships with third-party carriers and ensuring compliance with industry regulations, particularly in the transportation of over-dimensional and heavy haul freight. The Transportation and Logistics Manager's expertise will be essential in maintaining effective carrier partnerships and delivering consistent, reliable service to customers.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management or a related field.
Experience: 3-5 years of experience in logistics, supply chain management, or materials management. 2-3 years in experience in a leadership or managerial position overseeing teams and managing projects. Proven experience managing the transportation and coordination of over-dimensional or heavy haul freight, including compliance with regulatory requirements, route planning, and managing special permits preferred.
Strong leadership skills with experience in managing, mentoring, and developing teams. Ability to inspire and drive performance and lead through influence.
Experience utilizing software systems such as Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
Strong communication skills allowing effective communication with Team Members, Customers, and Vendors.
Experience utilizing CBA - Choosing By Advantages decision making methodology.
Travel: up to 25% depending on business needs.
Work Schedule: This position works between the hours of 7 AM and 5 PM, Monday- Friday. However, work may be performed at any time on any day of the week to meet business needs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for quoting, awarding, and managing freight movement of products to customer sites.
Grow our carrier partner base with capable and dependable carrier partners to ensure our future capacity requirements can be me.
Develop and implement transportation strategies to ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of goods.
Work with carrier base to plan routes and determine the most efficient methods for transportation.
Ensure adherence to delivery schedules, optimizing transit times, and reducing costs.
Coordinate with suppliers, carriers, and other stakeholders to ensure timely deliveries and the efficient flow of materials.
Develop and manage transportation and logistics budgets, ensuring cost control and optimization of resources.
Negotiate contracts and pricing with third-party carriers, suppliers, and service providers.
Address transportation-related issues or delays and develop contingency plans.
Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to transportation and logistics.
Analyze data to identify trends, optimize routes, reduce costs, and improve efficiency.
Monitor carrier base capacity and ensure Excellerate's near and mid-term transportation needs are not at risk.
Prepare reports and updates for senior management regarding operational performance and progress on key projects.
Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
