Reporting to the Head of North America People Excellence, the Leave of Absence (LOA) Specialist, is a member of the NA People Excellence team working as a partner to the LOA Manager to support the leave of absence programs for US employees. This role will focus on supporting the various leaves of absences including Short Term Disability (STD), Long Term Disability (LTD), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADAAA) and any additional company-sponsored leave programs with our outsourced vendor. This role supports LOA matters in Sanofi's People Excellence Team and manages LOA cases through the online platform and reviewing daily emails via a shared mailbox.

Main Responsibilities:



  • Supports the execution of the US LOA Program. Ensures compliance with state leave and federal laws affecting group benefit management administration, including, but not limited to, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), and the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).


  • Serves as the Tier 2 escalation in Service Now (SNOW), when applicable.


  • Supports LOA Manager, People Excellence and People Business Partners, managers, payroll, occupational health, and legal team members within the LOA process.


  • Partners with third-party administrator (TPA) to oversee eligibility, tracking and reporting, ensuring compliance with FMLA and ADA and reasonable accommodation oversight.


  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll for employees on leave by reconciling leave records with payroll data and third-party administrator (TPA) to ensure consistency and accuracy.


  • Collaborates on appropriate handling of benefits impacted by leaves of absence, return-to-work, and end-of-employment such as: medical, dental, life, and disability.


  • Provides managers and employees information on all processes and procedures required for leave of absence management and other accommodation requests.


  • Advises staff and management on leaves of absence programs, accommodations, and related policies/procedures to minimize risk from issues of non-compliance.


  • Assists with employee requests regarding LOA benefit programs. Manages on-going dialogue and updates of LOA content with One Support through self-service and captive center scripts.


  • Sponsors continuous improvement through feedback initiatives with People Excellence, People Business Partners, and People Services. Proactively looks for continuous improvement opportunities in LOA process.


  • Supports data integrity and accuracy.


  • Proactively encourages all line managers and employees to utilize Employee Self Service/Manager Self Service and One Support.





About You




Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.


  • 5 years of professional level experience, including leave of absence management, evaluation of disability claims, customer service and/or human resources experience.


  • Knowledge and understanding of STD, LTD, FMLA, ADAAA and state leave laws.


  • Ability to work independently and take-action.


  • Ability to take initiative, demonstrate a sense of urgency and flexibility in a fast-paced environment.


  • Ability to prioritize with an attention to detail.


  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.





Preferred Qualifications:



  • State mandated leave benefit experience.


  • Experience working in a highly matrixed/globally aligned organization.


  • Project Management experience.


  • SHRM and/or Certified Leave Management Specialist (CLMS) is a plus.
