Job Description:

JOB TITLE: Sr. Engineer - Project and Automation

DEPARTMENT: Operations

REPORTS TO: Head of Operations

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

In this role you will be the technical lead on in-house design projects and project manager on most outsourced projects to design build, and commission equipment to support improvements in R&D, Operations, and/or Logistics. While there will be occasional support on existing process and commercial equipment the primary focus will be on improvements, automation, and incorporation of additional technology.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the planning and implementation of technical projects: Ensure projects are completed according to outlined objectives.
  • Develop detailed project plans: Track progress and ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Coordinate resources: Manage internal resources and third parties/vendors as needed for project execution.
  • Manage changes: Handle changes to project scope, schedule, and costs using appropriate verification techniques.
  • Perform risk management: Minimize project risks, noting input to and from management regarding the overall business climate.
  • Measure project performance: Use appropriate systems, tools, and techniques.
  • Report and escalate issues: Communicate effectively with management as needed.
  • Maintain project documentation: Ensure comprehensive project records.
  • Provide technical guidance: Support the project team with technical expertise.
  • Conduct post-project evaluation: Identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.

Project Manager on outsourced projects:
  • Project scope
  • RFQ
  • Vendor selection
  • Contracts
  • Capital Appropriation Request and expense tracking
  • Performance assessment

  • Make detailed compelling recommendations for technology upgrades related to primarily obsolescence, but also with consideration of ease of use/replacement/programming/etc.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:
  • Minimum B.S. degree in Engineering. M.S. Preferred.

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience managing projects, designing equipment, and implementing improvements in a manufacturing setting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
  • Project leadership & documentation, engineering, manufacturing processes, root cause, PLC, HMIs, technical support, information technology, CAD, machine design, design drawings, troubleshooting, continuous improvement, plant site surveys, robotics, vision inspection

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS-SKILLS, TOOLS AND/OR EQUIPMENT USED:
  • Requires excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to interact well with internal and external contacts.
  • Requires verbal and written proficiency with the English language.
  • Some travel required, likely abroad.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software required.
