Position Overview

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering/Actuation Lead to provide the technical direction to and to coordinate the activities of the company's mechanical engineers, analysts, and CAD experts. This individual will be a leading voice in actuation-related research and development planning, a primary driver for successful execution of customer programs, and a main contributor to proposals. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting and improving the company's processes relating to actuation and design. As part of a modestly-sized organization, the successful candidate should expect to be a key independent contributor to the organization's work product. (This is not a company with lots of people bossing subordinates around, but of strong contributors to the work product.) The ideal candidate will be proactive, organized, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Responsibilities
• Perform full lifecycle product development (conceive, design, develop, test prototypes, manufacture and support)
• Oversee and mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and career development support.
• Collaborate with cross functional teams, including projects, electrical, systems, manufacturing to optimize designs.
• Engage with suppliers and customers to ensure project timelines and performance objectives are met.
• Provide expert advise to customers and guidance to colleagues.
• Understand industry and customer trends and recommend appropriate company responses.
• Participate in Hummingbird functional leadership team that plans and follows up on projects, resources, and technical road maps and that maintains company processes
• Design systems and components that meet customer needs and requirements within the framework of established and evolving Hummingbird best practices.
• Contribute to the Hummingbird framework of requirements, methods, analyses, tools, and documentation that accelerate the new product configuration process.
• Conduct experiments methodically, analyze data and interpret results.
• Conduct risk mitigation and development tests for new technologies and designs.
• Identify, formulate, and produce effective solutions to emerging problems.
• Evaluate final product's overall performance, reliability, and safety.
• Alter and modify designs to meet requirements and to eliminate malfunctions.
• Estimate budget and scope of project.

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
• Proven 10 years of working experience in mechanical engineering for mechanisms and machines, preferably for aerospace actuators.
• Hands-on experience with computer-aided design (CAD) product lifecycle management (PLM), finite element analysis (FEA)
• Adequate knowledge of engineering analysis tools (Solidworks Simulation Pro, ANSYS, ProMechanica or similar)
• Strong knowledge of materials, manufacturing, GD&T.
• Gear train design and analysis is a plus.
• Mathematical computing and analysis tools knowledge (Matlab, Excel, LabView, Mathcad, etc.)
• Solid understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, basic thermodynamics, materials science etc.
• Creativity and analytical skills
• Ability to communicate technical knowledge in a clear and understandable manner.
• Technical writing skills
• Ability to build confidence and rapport with customers
• Travel as required by project.
