Position Summary

Reporting to the CEO, the Purchasing Manager will oversee and manage all procurement activities, ensuring efficient and cost-effective acquisition of goods and services. This role is crucial in selecting and managing suppliers, controlling budgets and costs, and developing procurement strategies aligned with the organization's goals.

Job Duties
  • Assess potential vendors' capabilities, reliability, and pricing to select the best suppliers for the company's needs.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure long-term partnerships and consistent supply of goods.
  • Continuously research market trends, new products, and emerging suppliers to stay competitive and innovative.
  • Implement sustainable procurement practices and work with suppliers to adopt environmentally friendly policies.
  • Draft, review, and manage procurement contracts to ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Analyze procurement costs and identify opportunities for cost reduction and value improvement.
  • Develop, track, and report procurement metrics such as on-time delivery, cost savings, and supplier performance.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs and increase efficiency without compromising quality.
  • Collaborate with the Quality team to ensure purchased goods meet required specifications and standards.
  • Ensure procurement activities comply with legal and regulatory requirements, as well as internal company policies.
  • Follow all Food Safety, HACCP, Quality, and Operational procedures (SOPs) as defined in NMF's Quality Management System.
  • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, including disruptions, delays, and quality issues.
  • Evaluate existing procurement policies and procedures and implement improvements to ensure efficient and transparent procurement processes.
  • Train and mentor the team to enhance their skills and ensure adherence to best practices.
  • Leverage the ERP system to manage purchase orders, track deliveries, and maintain clear visibility of inventory data.
  • Collaborate with the production team to anticipate changes in operations that could impact inventory levels.
  • Work collaboratively with Finance during the annual budget process, providing relevant information on pricing models and helping set accurate spending budgets for future periods.
  • Observe all safety guidelines and report safety concerns to management.
  • Monitor market trends and industry best practices to drive continuous improvement within the department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, supply chain management or related discipline.
  • 5+ years progressive experience in procurement, supply chain or related role.
  • Minimum 3 years in food manufacturing or relevant industry required.
  • Previous experience working with an ERP system required.
  • Previous experience leading a team required.
  • Previous experience in project management considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Food Safety, GMP and HACCP standards are an asset.
  • Advanced proficiency of Microsoft Office suite required (MS Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook).
  • Leadership capability and ability to influence and motivate teams.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • Strong decision-making and analytical skills, with the ability to address and resolve issues with discretion.
  • Effective communication skills to engage with all levels of the organization, including internal and external customers.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address and resolve operational issues promptly.
  • Customer-centric approach to ensure high levels of service and satisfaction.
  • High attention to detail, meticulous, and able to maintain a high level of quality.
  • Adaptable, resourceful, and willing to learn.

Working Conditions
  • This is a Monday to Friday schedule with hours aligned to the core working hours of the business. Overtime, weekends and statutory holiday work may be required. Work hours and schedules may be changed at the discretion of the supervisor.
  • Will work a combination of on-the-floor and in-office work setting.
  • Will be exposed to varying temperatures including but not limited to working in production, warehouse coolers, and freezers from time-to-time.
  • Travel to other work sites may be required from time-to-time (5%).
  • Required to wear PPE such as safety boots, hair nets, lab coats and more when working in the GMP areas. No jewelry allowed on the production floor.

Compensation range for this position in Stanwood, Washington: $75,000 to $110,000. The compensation depends on qualifications and experience. This position is eligible for medical, dental, and vision insurance, accrued paid time off plan annually, personal medical and parental leave and paid holidays.
