Job Description:

Why Work at Rehlko

We have met today's energy needs while planning for tomorrow's for over 100 years. Beginning with the first modern generator, the Rehlko Automatic Power & Light, launched in 1920, Rehlko has been an innovative leader in energy resilience.

Our product range includes engines, generators, power conversion, UPS systems, EV components and electrification solutions, microgrid controls and management, clean energy solutions, and much more that serve a broad spectrum of OEM, residential, industrial, and commercial customers.

Our priorities are global: the stability from steady energy sources and reliable back-ups. The power to be able to harness energy, and the freedom of not being dependent on an aging centralized grid. The confidence that clean energy solutions offer when it comes to a sustainable world, and the commitment to keep innovating towards greater impact.

Why You Will Love this Job:

Rehlko is looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to provide technical and design direction in the development of custom generator sets. We are seeking a self-motivated individual with expertise in generator control systems, switchgear, transfer switches, communications, and power electronics. This role involves collaborating with sales, application engineering, design engineering, procurement, and production teams to design and engineer customer-specific generator sets and power systems. Responsibilities include consulting with engineering simulation, regulatory compliance, and third-party engineering resources to develop project requirements, researching and applying proven technologies for special designs, and estimating design duration and product costs. A sense of urgency for project completion and a commitment to continuous improvement in engineering excellence are essential.

Join our dynamic team where your self-motivation and sense of urgency will drive you to achieve key project milestones independently, with minimal guidance. You'll enjoy the challenge of juggling multiple projects, prioritizing tasks, and leading both local and remote engineers and designers. Your projects will be completed with high quality, on schedule, and within budget, using data-driven decisions and critical thinking, including risk/reward trade-offs. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, will be essential as you interact with internal teams and occasionally with end users. This role offers a fulfilling opportunity to make impactful contributions while continuously improving and excelling in your engineering career.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Electrical design for generator controls integrations, including internal genset and ATS controls and harness, as well as the coordination/integration with any third-party electrical systems and manage this integration up to and including the commissioning process.

  • Provide technical support in the quoting process for the Technical Solutions team regarding highly complex questions.

  • Support the National Accounts team and provide technical support and definition for National Accounts specifications.

  • Prioritize custom engineering orders that you are responsible for and assure timely completion through engineering to support the committed generator delivery date.

  • Develop moderately complex parametric components, assemblies, drawings, layouts, and specifications with sound understanding of the design intent and fundamental understanding of manufacturing processes when required.

  • Support and contribute information cross functionally and cross culturally to achieve desired process and diesel generator set design results.

  • Work with mechanical engineers and designers to ensure their design meets the customer's needs and integrate into the engineering specials package.

  • Work with Purchasing and Buyers to ensure that purchased parts are clearly identified and ordered on time.

  • Examine and approve custom designs that are assigned to you.

  • Maintain schedule for assigned projects and deliver results on time. Be perceptive to risks and benefits required to investigate and correct design problems.

  • Execute changes or modifications based on sound business judgment.

  • Initiate and support continual improvement initiatives to streamline internal business processes and support systems upgrades. Actively seek out inefficiencies in the custom order process to pursue continuous improvement opportunities.

  • Provide technical leadership to other team members.

  • Support the sales teams' efforts to win projects and customers, which will occasionally require preparing and presenting technical presentations and white papers.

  • Support the field service team on highly complex challenges at the customer site, providing technical solutions and troubleshooting recommendations

Requirements

  • ABET Accredited BSEE (Bachelor of Science - Electrical Engineering) and 2+ years electrical engineering experience with development of industrial or consumer products.

  • Demonstrated skills in project management as well as the ability to work in a team environment.

  • Electrical engineering experience with development of new consumer products preferred.
