Job Description:


The successful candidate will perform duties to operate the Motor Grader in a safe and efficient manner to move earth or stone to achieve precise project parameters.


Job Duties:

  • Check all fluid levels at the beginning of engine startup for the day monitor gauges and fluid levels throughout the day during operation.
  • Monitor the operation of the motor grader throughout the workday, maintain an awareness of unusual noise or operation and bring any exceptions to the attention of the supervisor.
  • Perform light mechanical adjustments and/ or assist mechanic in performing repairs on assigned equipment, assist with the lubrication and fueling of the motor grader.
  • The ability to perform a variety of tasks which may include shaping and fine grading subgrades, base materials shoulder, slopes and cutting ditches, make grade cuts by reading grade stakes or working from blue tops or string lines or according to directions.
  • The ability to make cuts in the area of known utilities without causing damage to the underground utility.
  • The ability to operate the motor grader in a manner to assure the safety of personnel around the equipment.
  • The ability to operate the motor grader on terrain and slopes in a manner to prevent damage to the equipment or injury to the operator.
  • The ability to operate the motor grader around structures. Tools and equipment so not damage the structures, tools or equipment, closely monitor the position of the blade so as to not damage surrounding structure or grader tires.
  • Keep motor grader in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Follow all safety rules and company policies and procedures.
  • Perform others duties as assigned.
  • Maintain professional conduct at all times.
  • Complete all assigned Learning Management System initiatives.

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Use of reading, writing, adding and subtracting of whole number; following instructions; use of fixed gauges, reading instruments and similar devices where interpretation is required.
  • Use ofjudgment to plan, perform and make decisions as to the sequence of set-up operation and process within recognized and standard methods and procedures.

Physical Activity & Demand:

  • Position requires the ability to climb onto machine, the ability to grasp control levers, to push and pull levers and to have sensitivity in touch to feel amount of pressure exerted on levers; such physical activity to operate control levers is repetitive in motion of the wrist, hands and or fingers, position requires ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and ability to perceive sounds and receive detailed information through oral communications, and to make fine discrimination in equipment noises which may indicate mechanical problems.
  • Light physical effort required to operate the levers, pedals and controls on the motor grader, continuously lifting or moving very light weight material (under 25 pounds) or occasionally lifting or moving average weight material (under 60 pounds)

Mental & Visual Demand:


Concentrated mental and visual attention required to operate the motor grader to achieve very precise grade levels, to very close limits of high accuracy and quality position requires visual acuity including depth perception and field of vision.


Responsibility for Equipment:


Responsible for preventing damage to equipment due to mistakes, carelessness, incorrect process or procedures. Such mishaps could be costly in terms of repair/replacement of equipment as well as production time.


Responsibility for Material:


Responsible for preventing damage to material worked. Such damage may arise from not properly grading material for drainage or overworking material. Such damage could be costly in terms of time and material replacement.


Responsibility for Safety:


Constant care necessary to prevent injury to others. Due to inherent hazards, an accident, should it occur, would result in injury of partially incapacitating nature such as a loss of an arm, leg or eye or severe health hazard.


Responsibility for Work of Others:


Responsible for own work.


Working Conditions:


Somewhat disagreeable working conditions with exposure to dust, dirt temperature variances and machine noise, with several elements continuously present.


Hazards:


Injuries, should they occur, would result in partial incapacitation, due to loss of arm, leg or eye or other severe health hazard.
