Real Estate Consulting - Financial Analysis - Retail Consulting

Have you worked with grocers to build or remodel stores? Do you have experience in business and real estate development and want to use your skills to support independent, community-owned grocery stores? We are looking for experienced professionals to join our team and guide the growth of our member food co-ops!

This position coaches our independent co-op grocery members on how to physically grow their business, advising on strategy and execution for real estate, financing, design and retail development, and construction. Each project is unique and requires effective team building and an entrepreneurial spirit to be successful.

This is an ideal position for a person with experience in retail grocery development interested in supporting the growth of food co-ops and the impact on their communities. Up to 75% business travel required at peak times.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Advise member co-ops on the real estate development strategy for clients by providing direction on the size and type of project investment as well as location and site selection.
  • Assist in negotiating Letters of Intent, Purchase Agreements, and Lease documents to minimize financial and operational risks to clients.
  • Develop and analyze the pro forma statements; provide General Managers and Boards with assessment of financial strengths and risks of the project.
  • Advise client on selection and oversight of a cross-functional team of market analysts, architects, engineers, interior designers, refrigeration systems, general contractors, project managers; coordinate efforts of NCG cross-functional retailing experts.
  • Provide oversight on overall project design development: store planning, programming, building layout, interior decor/signage, and public entitlements/permitting.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in finance, real estate, urban planning, architecture, construction, law, management, or business administration and/or a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in a related field.
  • At least three years of retail development or management experience.
  • At least three years of real estate development experience including project management.
  • Retail development or management experience in a grocery setting preferred.
  • Real estate development experience in a retail setting preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with lease negotiation or administration.

Home Office Option: This position is eligible for a home office in the contiguous U.S. if within 100 miles of a major airport and there is sufficient internet bandwidth and mobile phone service for work to be completed efficiently.

St. Paul is part of the major metropolitan area which along with Minneapolis is known as the Twin Cities. The area is known for its excellent parks, bike trails, and other outdoor activities; vibrant arts, culture, and dining scene; and cultural diversity. Our office is conveniently located between St. Paul and Minneapolis at 2610 University Ave W. There is free parking and the Green Line Light Rail stops at our building (Westgate Station).
