The Engineering Analyst will support Catapult Mineral Partners’ engineering department with the acquisition and divestitures (A&D) program and reserve reporting. The position has responsibility over maintaining the integrity of the Company’s engineering databases, tracking offers and new deal opportunities, and providing technical analysis. This includes, but is not limited to, maintenance of economic models, forecasting, updating oil and gas reserves, tracking acquisitions and divestitures, and monitoring of activity on the Company’s acreage.
The role will require a self-starter with a strong foundation in analysis of large data sets, reservoir engineering, and systems specific to the oil and gas industry. Success for this position will require excellent communication skills, project management, and initiative. Additionally, the successful candidate will possess the ability to work with cross functional teams at various levels of technical knowledge to develop databases, models, and reports to rapidly assess the value of potential acquisitions, market conditions, and the status of Company assets and make recommended business decisions in a timely manner.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Aid in maintaining and updating the Company’s economic models and engineering databases, including well-by-well production, type curve adjustments, continuous and routine updates to economic models, pricing outlooks, and reserves category changes used in the Company’s annual and quarterly financial plans, public disclosures, and management reports.
  • Review and identify outliers in the Company databases and/or economics runs, addressing and fixing errors. If necessary, requesting clarity from other departments and recording accurate notes for ease of future analysis.
  • Assist with the maintenance of mission-critical databases and file structures to make data accessible, either directly through the creation of necessary engineering tools or indirectly by collaborating with other departments to ensure complete and integrated data across Company functions.
  • Research and compile relevant reservoir engineering data to support the engineering department with asset development and acquisition and divestiture evaluations.
  • Support the acquisition process so that new deals can be evaluated efficiently and accurately by obtaining, organizing, preparing data for valuation, and providing early screening of deals based on set criteria.
  • Assist in third-party Reserves Report process, providing and producing necessary backup data to support economic and volumetric assumptions.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including land, data analytics, and accounting departments to ensure that economic data is up to date and systems are in place to monitor asset performance.
  • Build tools and workflows to make routine department tasks efficient and enhance analysis.
  • Help in the preparation of presentations for technical reviews and management meetings.
  • Other duties and projects, as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrates technical proficiency in the following areas:
    • Fluency in Microsoft Office suite
    • Familiarity with DrillingInfo/Prism/Enverus, minerals management, IHS, Salesforce, Aries/PhDWin/Combo Curve, state public mineral data, ArcGIS, and visualization tools such as Tableau or PowerBI, with specific expertise in one or more system

  • Demonstrates experience and proficiency in the following skills:
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
    • Ability to handle large volumes of data and find actionable trends – “see the forest and the trees”
    • Knowledge of reserve report process and timeline is a plus
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to document work and share knowledge
    • Ability to communicate and collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team, internally and externally, including engineers, landmen, attorneys, financial analysts, accountants, IT, management, and others as needed
    • Balance and prioritize short- and long-term projects alongside daily tasks
    • Familiarity with querying/navigating relational databases, report building, and trouble shooting
    • Working knowledge of oil and gas industry sufficient to interpret public data and Company reports; specific technical knowledge regarding reserves, land, drilling, completions, and production operations for forecast scheduling is a plus

REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum four-year degree in engineering, math, business, computer science, accounting, or other quantitative fields, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum one year of experience in oil and gas working with reservoir, exploration geology, production, land, or production accounting teams preferred
