Job Details:

The Mercer University Law Library is searching for a Reference Services Librarian on the Macon, Georgia campus.


Responsibilities:

The Reference Services Librarian position is a professional position, receiving guidance and indirect supervision from the Director of the Law Library. The Reference Services Librarian teaches first year legal research and teaches or participates in teaching advanced legal research. The Reference Services Librarian participates in all facets of the library, including reference services, instructional output, faculty support, student services, and collection development.

Qualifications:

Must hold a JD from an ABA accredited law school and an MLS/MSIS from an ALA accredited library or information science program.

This position is open to both entry-level and experienced candidates.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Has a thorough knowledge of the Anglo-American legal system, to teach and provide reference and faculty liaison services.

  • Knows how to create multimedia presentations in teaching legal research courses, by using Microsoft PowerPoint and other multimedia tools.

  • Has strong word processing skills in Microsoft Word, to create course syllabi, assignments, and lecture outlines, and to create reports and research guides.

  • Highly skilled using and teaching all of the various print and electronic legal research resources ( LEXIS, Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, Fastcase, and ProQuest) for reference, instruction, and faculty services.

  • Has a thorough knowledge of the principles of librarianship, and academic library resources, to provide reference service, and to develop, maintain and provide access to the law library collection.

  • Has effective interpersonal oral and written communication skills, to teach formally and informally, to provide reference and faculty liaison service, to interact with publishers and other library vendors, and to perform other library and law school services.
