Job Summary The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the procurement process within the organization. This role involves developing and implementing purchasing strategies, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring the acquisition of high-quality goods and services at competitive prices. The Purchasing Manager will lead a team of purchasing professionals, collaborate with various departments to align procurement activities with organizational goals, and drive cost-saving initiatives while maintaining compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee all areas of purchasing and will be responsible for all facility level buying and institution of national agreements, contracts, and programs.
Develop, train, and execute best practices of e-Purchasing, e-Commerce, SCM, CMMS, MRO, BPO, Consignment programs, and Supply Chain Integration Strategies.
Purchase industrial equipment, utilities, plant packaging materials, and chemicals.
Assist with establishing annual leasing programs and contracts at the facility level.
Responsible for training purchasing employees in policies, procedures, purchasing protocols & KPI's.
Directly responsible for development of all CERs, capital purchases, and budgets.
Will audit department related to purchasing SOP's.
Will assist in annual budgeting of operational and packaging supplies.
Work directly with Controller, Maintenance Manager, & Corporate Purchasing on corporate strategic sourcing national account/agreement programs.
Prepare purchase orders and solicit bid proposals.
Assist in inventories. Monitor monthly.
Develop and update a strategic purchasing plan that leverages purchasing synergies.
Support and resolve supplier management issues (on-time delivery, supply disruption, supplier quality follow up issues or other contractual compliance issues as deemed appropriate).
Lead staff to execute purchases at lowest total acquisition cost through effective supplier selection, negotiation, material planning, and conformance criteria for development projects and ongoing supply.
Develop, negotiate, and implement lean material flow (supply) initiatives.
Manage leverage requirements and achieve best-in-class supply chain performance.
Research, select and negotiate with potential suppliers and vendors for the acquisition of manufacturing, development and testing equipment, building and expanding the assembly line and production area.
Be a change agent for procurement and manage the overall relationship with the business and key stakeholders.
Enable the timely procurement of goods and services by aligning the best overall value to AFG within established procurement policies and procedures.
Offer insights and leverage knowledge of market conditions for goods/services purchased.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications (Required):
Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Bachelor's degree in purchasing/operations management or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated working knowledge in all Microsoft Office products with an emphasis in Excel.
Proven track record of developing and implementing process improvements, project management, and organizational leadership.
Proven effectiveness with supply base qualification and development with quantitative evaluation.
Experience in implementation of lean, continuous improvement methodologies.
Travel required in the beginning for training.
Preferred Qualifications:
3-5 years supervisory experience.
Certified purchasing manager (CPM).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiarity with leasing programs.
Expertise in the purchasing area with emphasis in the areas of industrial equipment, packaging materials, operating supplies, and chemicals.
Strong negotiation skills.
Strive for continuous improvement in the procurement profession.
Ability to make independent decisions.
Initiate, develop, and maintain policies and procedures on a daily basis.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to navigate through complex and difficult managerial situations.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, desk phones, and smartphones. The position will also be required to regularly visit production facility work environments.

Summary
America's Heartland Packing is set to open its doors in early 2025. The 775,000 sq. ft. greenfield project will include a harvest floor, carcass chillers, fabrication area, rendering, further processing area, storage coolers, freezers, and loading docks.
