This is an exciting opportunity to lead fundraising and philanthropic engagement efforts across two dynamic academic colleges, supporting student success, faculty research, and community impact.

The College of Science and Mathematics prepares future scientists, mathematicians, health professionals, and educators through hands-on research and academic excellence. With over 4,500 student majors, 108 full-time faculty members, and more than $5M annually secured in grants, the college is a hub for innovation in cancer research, biotechnology, environmental science, and STEM education.
College of Social Sciences (COSS)
The College of Social Sciences fosters critical thinking and civic engagement across diverse disciplines. With programs in sociology, political science, history, criminology, and more, COSS prepares students to become leaders and changemakers in their communities. What you will be doing:
As the Director of Development, you’ll lead fundraising efforts for both COSS and CSM by identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major and principal gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations. In partnership with the Deans of both colleges and the Associate Vice President for Development and Comprehensive Campaigns, you’ll craft and execute campaign strategies aligned with institutional and college priorities.
You’ll also serve as a liaison between the colleges and central advancement units, contributing to university-wide campaign planning and engaging volunteer leaders, boards, and philanthropic partners to deepen donor relationships. This is a key leadership role that drives strategic fundraising priorities and plays a vital part in the University's mission to serve the Central Valley and beyond.
The anticipated yearly salary range for this position is: $92,000 - $97,000 based on experience.
How you will be spending your time:
Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and secure major and principal gifts, including those exceeding $250,000 and occasionally over $1M, in collaboration with senior administrators
Develop deferred and outright gift strategies with prospects, allied professionals, and campus partners
Engage with philanthropic partners to ensure consistent and meaningful stewardship of gifts
Participate as a member of both college leadership teams, coordinating fundraising goals with deans and academic priorities
Liaise with University Advancement, including VPs and AVPs, to align fundraising efforts across campus units
Plan and support special events and donor engagement opportunities for cultivation and stewardship
Collaborate with volunteer boards and advisory councils to engage them in philanthropic initiatives
Occasionally support annual giving strategies and college-specific mini-campaigns, in coordination with the central Annual Giving office
Represent the colleges in university-wide fundraising projects as needed
What you will bring:
Bachelor's degree required from a regionally accredited institution.
Minimum of four years of increasingly responsible and successful fundraising experience or professional experience with transferable skills such as sales, marketing, or public relations.
Experience with a nonprofit organization.
Experience with comprehensive campaigns and/or specific experience in major gift solicitation, corporate/foundation relations, or constituent relations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's or other advanced degree preferred.
Experience/background in higher education.
Experience with alumni/donor databases and campus applications such as Advance, Reeher or Raiser’s Edge.
