Your Role



As a Engineering Principal Project Manager within Life Science's Engineering and Technology, you are the leader of large and strategic engineering capex projects. You manage a matrix of internal and contract team members to safely achieve project objectives within budget and schedule. You manage projects of moderate to high complexity and range up to 100M₠ / $100M and/or multiple smaller projects exceeding 2M₠ / $2M. You manage major workstreams on projects exceeding 100M₠ / $100M.


The project manager has a sound understanding of regulations, guidelines, standards, and cGMP's. The project manager has a sound understanding of design, construction, and qualification processes, project delivery models, and contract structures.


Applying project management best practices, you follow a stage-gate process to develop sound project scope, schedule, budget, and execution plans. Front-End-Loading ensures projects are well planned and executed to achieve desired outcomes. You are organized and establish processes and structures to manage design, procurement, construction, commissioning, qualification, and handover activities. You form and develop an effective team. You train, coach, and mentor engineers and support staff.


The project manager ensures a 'fit-for-use' and 'right-first-time' quality approach. You are a strong communicator and ensure alignment across the team and key stakeholders. The project manager gives full transparency on status of projects with respect to budget, schedule, scope and risks. You actively identify, mitigate, and manage project risk and act with urgency to resolve issues when they arise.


The projects require collaboration with other operations and commercial workstreams to achieve the overall business objectives. Interprets critical business issues and develops innovative solutions that help to sustain competitive advantage.


You use existing tools and contribute to continuous improvement and sharing of best practices among your peers and teammates.



Who You Are:




Minimum Qualifications:



  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering required (Chemical or mechanical preferred) with minimum of 8 years engineering experience

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment with increasing levels of responsibility (pharmaceutical, GMP industry preferred)

  • Proven track record of managing and leading engineering capital or construction projects




Preferred Qualifications:



  • Project Management Professional Certification (PMI PMP)

  • MBA or MS Engineering or related field desirable

  • Strong knowledge of formal project management processes and tools, utilizing these tools to initiate, manage and close complex projects

  • Experience managing and leading small to large capital projects' scope, budget, and schedule through project life cycle

  • An understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing facility design requirements and standards; qualification and validation processes; design, permitting, and construction processes; and quality systems

  • Ability to communicate actively with stakeholders at all levels within the organization (e.g., business leaders, functional leaders, team members) to achieve best results

  • Independence, assertiveness, and ability to make decisions at the right level quickly and confidently, with skills for people interaction and cross functional teamwork across departments and external project team

  • Demonstrated proficiency in communication and interpersonal skills and leading in matrix environments - able to influence without direct authority to achieve desired outcomes.

  • Strong in leadership, relationship building, and negotiation strategies; ability to influence, network, drive and manage change

  • Business acumen to support business case development, coordinate financial project evaluation, and preparation of funding requests

  • Ability to identify and evaluate problems, develop optional solutions, effective decision making, and implementation

  • Good understanding of project delivery models, contracting methods, and negotiations
