The Critical Systems Engineering team has an immediate opening for a Mainframe Infrastructure Capacity and Performance Engineer. This challenging role sets strategy and provides leadership of the performance and capacity management of the mainframe ecosystem. This role is also responsible for the governance and oversight of our service partners including vendors responsible for the delivery of mainframe IT Infrastructure services; these teams work closely with the State Street operational teams who are responsible for applications and other platforms. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing existing capacity and performance statistics while working with application developers, systems engineers and vendor partners to gain insight into future needs and ensuring sufficient capacity is available while managing costs. In collaboration with the business, technology peers, and vendor partners, you will ensure that State Street's businesses have optimized services and operations, enabling greater availability, performance and reliability in the delivery of State Street products.
What you will be responsible for
Global Management of Mainframe Capacity and Performance management working with systems engineers, application development and vendor partners
Provide SME & Management escalation point of contact for all capacity needs
Utilize WLM to tune and optimize mainframe workloads
Perform Change management governance including review of planned changes for impact and timing and act as one of the weekend duty managers
Development and management of platform operations processes and capacities, ensuring all technology SLAs/OLAs are met, driving platform availability
Institute and govern metrics related for capacity and performance management
Collaborate with application and business teams to understand evolving client requirements and strong ability to understand and explain impact on mainframe capacity
Collaborate with service providers to improve mainframe operations & performance
Monitor hardware/software industry to protect mainframe assets and provide planning for lifecycle changes.
Monitor industry for performance and capacity best practices and make recommendations for enhancements in SSC tools and practices
Provide direction and approvals for performance/capacity actions and SOPs, change management, configuration management, security, etc.
Support the increasing regulatory needs including: responding to audits, providing evidence, conducting DR exercises, performing Cyber vault exercises, risk assessments, identifying and delivering enhancements, etc.
Support the Secure Baseline /Healthcheck process including results and remediation reviews
Education & Requirements
Bachelor's degree in computer science or other technical discipline with a minimum of 10 years' experience with z/OS infrastructure.
5+ years' experience performing Capacity & Lifecycle Management of Platforms
Level-4 troubleshooting skills in a global mainframe environment including experience working with the service providers to ensure effective and reliable operations
Proven understanding of Work Load Manager (WLM) ability to create proper policies in support of efficient performance
Experience with mainframe tools such as Omegamon, Query Monitor, Log Analysis, and RMF Monitor
Excellent customer service orientation
Proven Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Analytical, Collaboration and Decision Making Skills
Excellent leadership and exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with delivering IT services in a financial service organization
Experience using JIRA for creating and assigning work/tasks
Salary Range: $120,000 - $187,500 Annual
