Position Summary:
Continuing to evolve within a global firm, Spencer Stuart's Private Equity business is looking to grow the team devoted to its high impact strategic initiatives and daily operational support. Example workstreams include enhancing our client coverage capabilities, scaling our operational processes and efficiencies, deepening inter-practice GTM strategies, and conducting other supporting analyses around our PE specific offerings. Thus, Spencer Stuart is seeking an Analyst to support these efforts, with a core focus on business operations and strategy, with an additional remit that touches on business development, data management, and other cross-functional needs. Success in the role will be evaluated by developing a clear track record of collaborative problem solving around strategic priorities, working towards acting as thought partner on core team needs in addition to facilitating them, the overall furthering of our client coverage research efforts, and greater knowledge sharing and collaboration on all PE topics firm wide (IC, best practices, datasets, case studies, etc.).

Specifically, the Practice Operations Analyst, Private Equity will be responsible for supporting practice operations, inclusive of strategic initiatives, data management, internal communications and convening, technological innovation, and knowledge management. Additionally, the Analyst will support client coverage and business development initiatives, ranging from big picture market analyses, proactive business enablement, and ad hoc support for broader client coverage needs. Under the direction of the Global Practice Lead and working in close collaboration with the Manager, Strategic Accounts and the Associate Manager, Strategy and Operations, this Analyst will be a critical member of the PE Business' support team, focusing on enabling innovation and strategic growth. With proven success and aligned to business needs, the Analyst will help to further define their role and development path over time

Key Responsibilities (% of time given as benchmark estimate, but will be tailored to development interests over time)

Practice Operations (~50%)
  • Strategic Initiatives: Support strategic initiative planning and execution within the core PE team and on behalf of the business more broadly (e.g. new product development, compensation pilots, pricing analyses, coordinated GTM strategies, etc.).
  • Data Management: Facilitate global PE assignment audits and other data management initiatives, partnering across teams to ensure PE data is inputted in Spencer Stuart's internal CRM properly.
  • Internal Convenings: Partner in developing agendas, content, and other prep needed for internal team meetings and/or leadership team presentations (ELT, the Board, GPLs, RPLs, Practice Meetings, etc.).
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: In tandem with Associate Manager, Strategy and Operations, liaise with firm's other core divisions (e.g., Legal, Technology, Marketing, Finance, etc), to identify, scope, and support projects requiring continued teamwork and/or represent the PE Business on select cross-functional needs as the team's subject matter expert.


Business Development (~25%)
  • Knowledge Management: Centralize information and resources within Connect / SharePoint to have one true source of PE knowledge, quarterbacking questions from across the firm and proactively sharing data sources / research as needed.
  • Proactive Business Development Enablement: Support proactive BD efforts through mappings, specialized lists, and creating enablement resources for teams to more effectively identify and pursue BD opportunities.
  • Reactive Business Development Needs: Reacting to client needs and opportunities, support other client enablement teams' pitch material creation where possible / as needed.


Client Coverage (~25%)
  • Client Relationship Analyses: On an ad-hoc basis, assist in comprehensive relationship analyses, outlining context, history, strengths, opportunities, and core touchpoints.
  • Client Management Support: Support PE client leads on their coordination, business enablement, and other strategic coverage efforts, acting as a guide on how best to partner with the PE Business. This can include crafting externally facing materials, internal strategy sessions, engagement model options and benchmarks or similar.


Candidate Profile:
Successful candidates will be creative thinkers who are collaborative yet are still able to operate independently and proactively to address the needs of an innovative, growing team. They must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and find energy in adapting to day-to-day changes that come with a solution-oriented role. In addition, they will work effectively with a wide range of global internal and external stakeholders to expand existing client relationships and create new relationships. They will be graceful under pressure, instinctually consultative with a relationship orientation, and be an excellent multitasker with an ownership mindset.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a professional services environment, internal strategy and operations role, and/or relevant executive search experience with Private Equity clients. Spencer Stuart experience is preferred.
  • Understanding of and interest in the Private Equity and general alternative landscape.
  • Experience supporting deliverables aligned to business development and practice strategy.
  • Have a demonstrated track record of partnering across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • An equal parts thinker and doer.
  • Excellent communication skills and credibility with senior executives and colleagues.


The base compensation range for this position is $65-68k per year. The actual base compensation offered within this range will be dependent on the individual's skills, experiences, and qualifications. This position will be eligible to participate in our annual discretionary bonus program.
