Part of the IU Libraries and founded in 1950, the Indiana University Press is recognized internationally as a leading academic publisher specializing in the humanities and social sciences. We produce more than 120 new books annually, in addition to 40 journals, and maintain a backlist of some 3,500 titles. The Press emphasizes scholarship but also publishes text, trade, and reference titles. Job Summary
Department Specific Responsibilities
Proactively researches and pursues revenue-generating rights and sub-rights sales opportunities.
International translations (e.g., foreign press and commercial publishing houses; exclusive and non-exclusive International literary agents; etc.).
Co-publications (with both foreign and domestic presses and publishing houses).
Custom publications.
Multimedia and entertainment (television, film, radio, audiobooks, documentary and dramatic adaptations, novelization, stage adaptations, etc.).
As-needed consultation with and regular meetings with Marketing and Sales Director.
Added duties related to the handling the right sales for other University Presses/IUP publishing partners.
Partial Content Requests (Cognella via University Readers, Cengage, Pearson etc.).
All IU Press-managed content (e.g., website, invoicing database, AcademicPub).
Consults with authors and editors regarding rights-related issues.
Researches and consults on electronic rights for existing titles.
Researches rights on existing titles for permanent and new publication opportunities.
Reports to management on all subsidiary rights sales revenue and recommend ways to expand reach and growth in the market.
General Responsibilities
Independently develops and executes basic and complex strategic marketing plans for a department or functional area within a department to advance goals and objectives, including data collection and market research, target market definition, development of project timelines, sourcing of promotional materials, and marketing content creation.
Responds to inquiries and requests from stakeholders and explains information regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
Manages relationships with various internal and external stakeholders, including vendors, and acts as a collaborative resource in curating marketing plans to relevant initiatives, groups, events, and programs.
Regularly researches relevant subject matter to increase knowledge in area(s) of specialty, including information on various marketing channels (print, online, electronic, email, social media, and direct mail).
May participate in team-based marketing planning to align strategies and deadlines across various concurrent projects and initiatives.
Collaborates with users of various software programs and creative platforms to create and deliver content and marketing materials in multiple formats to a variety of audiences.
May provide guidance to lower-level Marketing Generalists; may make process and operational recommendations to manager.

Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, English, public relations, or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
5 years in relevant field
Preferred
2 years of rights, sub-rights, and permissions experience required
1 year of experience in academic publishing

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. $60,000 - $72,000 per year
