The HR Generalist role is part of the IU Human Resources Operational HR team. This team supports the IU Bloomington campus as a trusted resource, strategic partner, leader, and innovator that supports the university's mission, vision, and strategic plan. This position is embedded within the Student Life division, which encompasses a wide range of services and programs aimed at enhancing the student experience. Job Summary
The HR Generalist/Recruiter specializes in recruitment and onboarding processes and plays a pivotal role in attracting and retaining top talent. Responsibilities include managing the full recruitment cycle, from job posting to candidate selection, and ensuring a smooth onboarding process for new hires. Collaborates with department managers to understand staffing needs and develop effective recruitment strategies. Additionally, the role facilitates onboarding and orientation sessions and provides ongoing support to new employees to help them integrate successfully into the Student Life culture.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Oversees the entire recruitment process, including job postings, resume screening, interviewing, and candidate selection, ensuring a seamless and efficient experience for both candidates and hiring managers.
Collaborates with department managers to identify staffing needs and create effective recruitment strategies that attract high-quality candidates, utilizing various sourcing methods such as job boards, social media, and networking events.
Coordinates and conducts comprehensive onboarding programs for new hires, including orientation sessions, training schedules, and introduction to university policies and culture, to ensure a smooth transition into the Student Life organization.
Works closely with other HR team members to support recruitment and onboarding activities, sharing best practices and ensuring consistency in processes across the organization.
Offers continuous support to new employees during their initial months, addressing any questions or concerns, and providing resources to help them integrate successfully into their roles and the company.
Keeps accurate and up-to-date records of all recruitment activities, including candidate information, interview feedback, and hiring metrics, to ensure compliance with university policies and legal requirements.
This role may be called on to work in various areas of the HR team, including recruitment and staffing, employee onboarding, employee relations, performance management, compensation and benefits, compliance, training and development, HR policy development, HR data management, and health and safety.
General Responsibilities
Counsels employees and management on various HR topics and functions; communicates and shares understanding of various human resource policies, procedures, laws, standards and other government regulations.
Researches, responds to, and addresses various employee relation issues such as FMLA, employee complaints, workers compensation, etc.
Develops in-depth knowledge and skill in various HR functions, in addition to growing knowledge in HR policies, procedures, and legal requirements to provide quality HR guidance to employees and managers.
Develops a thorough understanding of the business strategy and culture for RC, school or department.
Contributes and/or manages various HR activities, projects, or initiatives, such as recruitment, onboarding, engagement, or performance management.
Researches and stays up-to-date on relevant HR topics.
Helps foster a positive culture and work environment; ensures and promotes an environment of diversity and inclusion.
May conduct research and analysis for local/department HR team or COE partners and develops solutions and recommends course of action.
May lead small projects or activities.
