About the Integrated Program in the Environment (IPE):
The Integrated Program in the Environment (IPE) is an interdisciplinary community at IU dedicated to advancing environmental education, research, leadership, and outreach. It is a joint program between the O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Policy, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Public Health. IPE collaborates across schools, academic departments, research centers, and community organizations to provide innovative and impactful environmental programs and degree pathways. IPE shares the belief that all people deserve to live in sustainable and thriving communities, and that collaboration among individuals with diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and skills leads to more vibrant and sustainable solutions to meet the pressing global challenges that we face today.
Job Summary
The Assistant Director will play a key role in the administration and strategic development of IPE, working closely with the IPE Director, faculty, students, and staff to support programmatic initiatives and student engagement.
Department Specific Responsibilities:
Oversees daily operations, manage budgets, facilitate partnerships, and enhance student community in environmental studies and experiential learning opportunities.
Leads outreach efforts to high school students to promote awareness of IPE degrees and opportunities across the IUB campus and at the Research and Training Preserve (RTP).
Assists in the planning, execution, and assessment of academic and co-curricular initiatives related to environmental studies.
Provides key administrative and strategic support to the Director in designing, implementing, and evaluating program initiatives.
Develops and implements programming that enhances student involvement and culture, including internships, research opportunities, and career development resources.
Manages daily operations, including budgeting, scheduling, and coordination with affiliated departments. Develops and executes initiatives to inform and engage high school students about IPE degrees, career pathways, and experiential learning opportunities.
Strengthens relationships with faculty, community partners, and external organizations to expand programmatic opportunities.
Oversees promotional efforts, including website content, newsletters, and social media outreach to highlight program activities.
Organizes lectures, workshops, and conferences that support the mission of IPE.
Selects, supervises, and mentors undergraduate and graduate student workers and fellows affiliated with IPE programs and initiatives.
General Responsibilities
Develops and implements programs and initiatives geared at improving student engagement and involvement outcomes at the program, department/division, or campus level.
Interfaces directly with students, attending student life events and programs and gathering satisfaction feedback from student participants to implement into future student life initiatives and objectives.
Collaborates with staff in own department and other departments, as well as student organization leaders, on shared student life goals, often coordinating funding to sponsor student life initiatives.
Measures and evaluates effectiveness of student life initiatives against projected outcomes; regularly prepares reports and presents to stakeholders on effectiveness and to secure funding for initiatives moving forward.
Provides guidance to student organizations regarding operations, budget, leadership, activities, recruitment, registration, policies, and compliance. Promotes leadership and student development through advising of individual student leaders and volunteers. Contributes to formation, interpretation, and implementation of student organization policies.
Plans and coordinates communications for student life initiatives to ensure student participation and inclusion.
May provide guidance to other Student Life Specialists; makes process recommendations to manager for improved delivery of service.

EDUCATION
Required
Bachelor's degree in public affairs, public health, counseling, social work, education, business, or related field
Preferred
Master's degree in higher education student affairs or related field

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
