Job Summary:



We are seeking a highly experienced Senior System Engineer with a deep background in systems infrastructure, technical leadership, and Windows server administration. The ideal candidate will be proactive, open-minded, and skilled in both technical execution and team collaboration. This role plays a critical part in analyzing, improving, and supporting core IT systems and leading key infrastructure initiatives.


Candidates must have strong communication and collaboration skills, as well as demonstrated expertise in automation using PowerShell and managing hybrid environments. This position is open to candidates nationwide and is primarily remote, with occasional onsite presence required in Madison, WI.





Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the analysis of new and existing technologies (e.g., VMware, VDI), recommending enhancements to improve performance, stability, and cost efficiency.


• Serve as the technical lead for system implementation projects - collaborating with project managers, identifying SMEs, and guiding architectural decisions.


• Provide technical mentorship and direction to cross-functional teams, ensuring best practices are followed across projects.


• Perform advanced system administration duties including configuration, monitoring, and support of Microsoft Windows servers and core services (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, DFS).


• Manage and maintain digital certificates and PKI-related services used across core systems and third-party integrations.


• Drive automation initiatives through PowerShell scripting to improve system efficiency and operational workflows.


• Participate in project planning and execution, including status monitoring and documentation of processes.


• Maintain a flexible, open-minded approach to change, team collaboration, and constructive feedback.

Required Qualifications:

• 
  10+ years of experience analyzing and improving IT infrastructure technologies including VMware and VDI environments.


• 
  10+ years of experience leading technical teams through system implementations and enterprise-level infrastructure projects.


• 
  10+ years of expert-level system administration experience with Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, and related core services (Group Policy, DFS, DHCP, DNS).


• 
  7+ years of experience managing certificates, digital security, and authentication services.


• Strong PowerShell scripting skills for system automation and administration tasks.


• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to engage effectively with cross-functional teams and leadership.


• Proven ability to manage and document multiple technical initiatives simultaneously.

Interview & Hiring Process:

• Phone and video interviews required; in-person interview may be requested.


• Candidates must provide three (3) business references, including at least one supervisory reference.

Additional Notes:

• Candidates must provide their own equipment for this role.

Work Environment:

This position is currently hybrid, with ~95% remote work. No permanent workspace is provided onsite, but the selected candidate must be available to travel to Madison, WI as needed. Travel costs are not reimbursed.
