Job Purpose/Summary:



The managing director of IT is a senior leadership role within an agricultural genetics company, responsible for overseeing the application of data science techniques across the entire agricultural process, from genetic breeding to production hatcheries and distribution, leveraging data to optimize each stage of the supply chain and maximize genetic progress. The successful candidate is also responsible for leading the overall IT strategy and operations of the organization, ensuring the efficient and effective use of technology to support business objectives.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:




  • Data strategy development: Defining the data science vision for R&D and its supply chain, identifying key data sources, and establishing data quality standards.


  • Genetic data: Utilizing advanced database management for collection, storage and analysis of -omics, pedigree and phenotypic data.


  • Supply chain optimization: Using data analytics to optimize inventory management, logistics, and distribution networks to ensure timely delivery of broiler genetics to customers.


  • Team leadership: Building and managing a high-performing data science team with expertise in database management and administration, machine learning, and supply chain analytics.


  • Collaboration: Working closely with research scientists, breeders, field operations teams, and supply chain managers to integrate data-driven insights into decision-making across the organization

  • Developing and implementing an IT strategy that aligns with the overall business strategy.

  • Leading the development and implementation of IT policies and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.

  • Ensuring the security and privacy of the organization's IT systems and data.

  • Keeping up to date with emerging technologies and trends in the IT industry and recommending their adoption when appropriate.




Requirements:



  • Understanding of genetics and supply chain best practices

  • Extensive experience in data management techniques including machine learning, statistical modeling, and predictive analytics

  • Knowledge of supply chain management principles and optimization methods

  • Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in an IT related field

  • Expertise: 10+ years of tech experience; proven leader technology space

  • Problem Solving: Establishes and implements strategies having long-term impact (> 5 years)

  • Collaboration and Communication: Coordinate with BU leadership and across technology leadership team
