Job Description:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS | ROPES COURSE SPECIALIST

Leads groups on ropes course activities including belay duties as needed.
Supervises campers and staff during all high and low ropes course activities.
Trains and evaluates staff in proper use and programing of all high and low ropes course activities.
Maintains, inspects, cleans, repairs, orders, and reports on ropes course equipment and facilities.
Plans, programs, executes, and evaluates all ropes course activities.
Assist in managing team of Belaying staff. Plans and runs weekly belay in-service training. Regularly evaluates belay staff, providing feedback throughout the year.
Ensures safety of all participants in ropes activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Represent and communicate the policies and standards of Camping Services and The Akron Area YMCA
Promote a culture of open feedback and commitment to one's best self.
Communicate appropriately and professionally with campers, peers, and leadership.
Follow camp guidelines for self-care to consistently be the best.
Embody an "on-stage" mentality by actively and consistently participating in or facilitating program with campers at the highest level.
Adapt programs to meet individual campers' interests and needs.
Actively see feedback from campers, peers and leadership to improve the camp experience.
Listen actively to campers, address each camper by name.
Be continually aware of physical and emotional needs of campers and meet them appropriately.
Use age and developmentally appropriate interventions with emphasis on being proactive.
Provide the extra needed medical and personal attention required by campers with disabilities as needed.
Builds strong bonds within the group of campers and facilitates new friendships.
Arrives on time and prepared to participate and facilitate as the program requires.
Challenges campers, peers, and oneself to reflect on both positive and challenging experiences throughout the session.
Abide by all Rotary Camp and Akron YMCA Policies and procedures, as well as boundaries set forth by the American Camping Associations (ACA) or other camp governing bodies.
Brings creativity, positivity, and consistency to each situation.
Participate and assist in leading in pre-season staff training.
Attends and supports the leading and organization of staff meetings.
Completes all reports and documentation timely including but not limited to: incident reports, accident reports, camper behavior reports, child abuse reports, and other business office forms.
Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS | SUPPORT STAFF

Participate in the pre-camp training and planning process.
Supervise and support counselors in a constructive way, giving, and listening to any feedback. Supporting and motivating staff in their daily activities; assisting where needed.
Is responsible for ensuring high quality, engaging, and safe program delivery in all activity areas while ensuring the well-being of campers and staff.
Supports the leading and organization of staff meetings.
Participate in and assist with both Resident Camp and Day Camp programs.
Oversees all behaviors of campers and ensures that these behaviors are documented appropriately.
Maintain a respectful and supportive relationship with all staff.
Maintain all paperwork pertinent to the position.
Demonstrate enthusiasm for our camp, programs, and campers.
Guides and assists others to complete all reports and documentation timely including but not limited to: incident reports, accident reports, camper behavior reports, child abuse reports, and other business office forms.
Support Staff will have a key area of focus and serve as the Program Leader for that area Focus.

This Program Leadership area of focus may have its own Essential Functions and qualifications for that Role which are described in the attached addendum. Examples include but are not limited to: Arts & Crafts, Waterfront, Media Specialist, Day Camp Lead, etc…
