Position Overview

Reporting to the President of Masterack, the VP of Engineering will serve as a key member of the company's leadership team and have overall engineering leadership responsibility for Fleet, Product Development and Contract Manufacturing Engineering. The VP of Engineering will beresponsible for base product design, customized product design, CAD Models, detailed drawings, Work Instructions and other engineering documentation, as well as being the leader in driving product innovation.

Description

Masterack's VP of Engineering will be responsible for Fleet and Product Development activities, including contract manufacturing. They will be responsible for developing and launching new Fleet products for work vans and trucks and ensuring all vehicle designs meet customer specifications and requirements. They will manage the Product Development Process and Fleet development process, ensuring Engineering designs meet customer expectations, are completed on time and are compliant. Other responsibilities include:


  • Develop the long-term vision and strategic objectives for the engineering function.
  • Manage day-to-day engineering operations and ensure Fleet and product development process is followed and reported throughout the organization.
  • Performance management of engineering Fleet and Product Development Team to deliver results.
  • Engineering output includes Bill of Materials (JDE), CAD Models (SolidWorks), Drawings and Work Instructions.
  • Support Special Engineering requirements for quoting Fleet. Lead efforts to provide product cost estimates for Product Development and Contract Manufacturing.
  • Work with Upfit/Operations to ensure install times are correct in JDE and quote estimates.
  • Ensure Configurator 1 content is accurate and up to date, including pricing.
  • Ensure prototype builds are coordinated with operations and upfit.
  • Oversight for Project Management details from concept to production using traditional Project Management tools.
  • Oversight for all component and assembly design using various metals.
  • Provide Project updates and manage communications, including project review meetings and interaction with customers.
  • Work with Sales, Operations, Quality, Marketing and Finance to focus and execute on critical deliverables, including project deliverables, functional metrics and business goals and objectives.
  • Support and manage contract manufacturing projects and ensure business deliverables are met, including utilizing metal and painting capabilities.
  • Recommend potential Capital investments to support business opportunities as needed
  • Manage and support relationships / partnerships with cross functional teams and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Develop and improve processes to support the strategic direction and growth of the organization.
  • Develop a budget and operating plan for Engineering.
  • Analyze program risks and develop a plan for mitigation and/or elimination.
  • Develop an evaluation method to assess program strengths and identify areas for improvement.
  • Manage a cross-functional project team with a diverse array of talents and responsibilities.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of relevant, progressive Program Management and Engineering Design Leadership experience, including performance managing teams.
  • Extensive metal and plastic processes - Design, manufacturing, and hands on experience.
  • Proven Track record of developing, managing, and delivering projects to market.
  • Ability to work with key stakeholders in various locations and at various levels.
  • Strong leadership skills including leading cross-functional teams.
  • Strong knowledge of Program Management processes - PMP Certification is a plus.
  • Strong Business Development experience, including thorough knowledge of Financial Processes.
  • Develop relationships with key peers (Purchasing, Quality, Operations, Engineering, Finance, Marketing, Sales) and actively contribute in meetings, projects and events.
  • Participate, prepare, and support RFQ and other strategic sourcing activities.
  • Results-oriented and demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet critical deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to build and maintain good cross functional working relationships
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet goals and deliver results effectively
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Skills & Knowledge:

  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering Required, MBA Preferred
  • PMP Certification is a plus
  • 10+ years of progressive responsibility in an engineering and/or business function
  • Demonstrated success in year-over-year business growth and Program Management
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen to include should-cost modeling preferred
  • High knowledge and understanding of engineering drawings of component parts
  • Bill of Material (BOM), Production Routing, Inventory Control and Manufacturing Process knowledge
  • SolidWorks, Product Data Management (PDM), Configurator 1 (C1) and JD Edwards knowledge beneficial
  • Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

Physical Demands:


  • Work occurs primarily in the office but time on the production floor is required
  • Travel by car or plane may be required - up to 25%
  • Occasional lifting and/or moving objects up to 25 pounds may be required
