Department Information



The Indiana University (IU) Center for Rural Engagement improves the lives of Hoosiers through collaborative initiatives that discover and deploy scalable and flexible solutions to common challenges facing rural communities. Working in full-spectrum community innovation through research, community-engaged teaching, and student service, the Center builds vision, harnesses assets, and cultivates sustainable leadership structures within the communities with which it engages to ensure long-term success.


As part of the Rural Scholars Program, the IU Center for Rural Engagement seeks a student for a project-based internship in partnership with grant writing initiatives. Interns will work directly with the CRE Quality of Place Liaison to identify 3-5 priority projects that support community partner initiatives and contribute towards the intern's portfolio and work experience. Rural Scholars commit to their internship for one academic year, from August until completion in May.



Job Summary





  • Conduct research and assess mission match for available grants within the areas of rural placemaking, health, and community resilience-focused projects that align with current priorities and projects.

  • Assist with maintaining a database of potential grant opportunities that include proposal submission and report deadlines.

  • Draft, revise, and organize documents for grant proposals that advance projects initiated and led by CRE community partners.

  • Provide support and receive mentorship to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to federal, state, local and private funding sources.

  • Support community partners with the grant submission process for funding opportunities that align with community partner projects, priorities, and budgets.




Qualifications



EDUCATION



Required



  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University.


Preferred



  • Working towards a degree in Public Affairs, Public Policy, Arts Administration, Healthcare Management and Policy, Environmental and Sustainability Studies, International Affairs, or a similar program.

WORK EXPERIENCE



Required



  • Prior experience with persuasive writing, narrative writing, data-driven analysis, impactful storytelling, grant writing, and/or proposal development.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES



Required



  • Valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.

Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without accommodation.



Work Location



Bloomington, Indiana


This position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.



Advertised Salary



$15.00 per hour


Eligible for $0.50 rise each academic semester (Fall/Spring) as you continue to work with CRE.



Work Hours



8-10 hours per week


August-May
