The University of Miami UHealth - Orthopedic Sports Medicine at SoLé Mia has an exciting opportunity for a Cast Technician.
Assists physician and nursing personnel with orthopedic casting procedures, including the application and removal of a variety of casts and splints.
Supports medical staff with routine examination and treatment procedures such as removing casts, cleaning wounds, and applying dressings.
Provides continuity of post-op care casting, splinting, and bracing, and documents all treatments in patients' medical records.
Administers medication and assists with medical supplies and equipment during minor procedures.
Maintains appropriate par level of supplies, medications, and instruments, and places orders.
Keeps examination rooms, and cast rooms, fully stocked and ensures that they are cleaned after each patient.
Maintains coding procedures for modalities and supplies utilized.
Facilitates patient flow and assists physician and nursing personnel in coordinating patient care.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in an out-patient clinic setting as a cast technician preferred.
Orthopedic Technician Certification preferred.
Bilingual preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM
Department Specific Functions
Assess, apply, remove and evaluate casts, splints, wounds and fit patients with orthotic devices. Provides continuity of post-op care in casting and bracing. Assist physician with minor procedures in clinic, as needed, in a competent manner. Perform vital signs effectively. Prepares medications and medical supplies for minor office/clinics procedures.
Will be responsible for maintaining an appropriate level of supplies, medications and instruments, placing orders in a timely manner. Maintain exam rooms and cast room fully stocked. Ensures that the rooms are cleaned after each patient.
Assists physician in obtaining pertinent medical information, such as reports and results. Monitor the progress of patient undergoing diagnostic testing (x-ray lab) on proper benefits verifications with department.
Prepares for clinic the previous day ensuring all notes and test results are available to the physician for review the day that the patient is seen in clinic.
Prepare patient (provide gown, draws medications for injections as per physician instructions). Help the team efficiently keep the clinic flow by rooming patients, and ensuring the providers have all information needed for appointments.
Document all treatment in patient medical records (date, time, medical history). Respects the confidentiality of all patient and uses complete discretion.
Available to travel to different UHealth clinics in Miami Dade County and Broward County
Available to float to different divisions within the Department of Orthopaedics
