City of Columbia, MO – Utilities Department

Salary: $70,935 - $103,566 annually (Commensurate with experience and professional licenses)

The City of Columbia is seeking a skilled and dedicated Engineer to join our Sewer Engineering division within the Utilities Department. Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare, modify, and review engineering designs, construction plans, reports, and cost estimates.

• Manage capital improvement projects from conception through final acceptance.

• Analyze and validate engineering data to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

• Conduct technical reviews of engineering and construction proposals.

• Participate in public meetings and communicate with stakeholders.

• Ensure projects adhere to city ordinances and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.

• Experience: 3-5 years in engineering, construction, or a related field.

• Licenses & Certifications:

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License (Preferred)

  • Valid driver’s license

Applicants without a P.E. license may be considered for an Engineering Specialist position, with a salary range of $63,906 - $93,302 annually.

Preferred Knowledge & Skills:

• Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, construction methods, and regulatory compliance.

• Proficiency in engineering design software and computer-aided drafting (CAD).

• Ability to analyze data, prepare reports, and develop cost estimates.

• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

• Work Locations: Primarily office-based with occasional outdoor work at construction sites.

• Exposure to: Moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, loud noises, and extreme temperatures at times.

• Physical Requirements: Occasional lifting (up to 10 lbs), prolonged sitting, and field visits.
