Job Description:

SUMMARY

Facilitates and ensures international trade compliance with U.S. laws and regulations. Helps organization comply with imports and exports laws and regulations. Helps organization by acting as main interface to carriers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reviews imports and exports for legal compliance including proper tariff classification, country of origin, duty, valuation, ECCN, Schedule B, and others
  • Reviews all imports and exports relative to special regulation compliance (i.e., FDA, Hazardous Materials, etc.)
  • Prepares import and export documentation
  • Coordinates incoming import shipments with suppliers and carriers.
  • Performs post entry reviews and executes any necessary post entry adjustments.
  • Resolves problems with carriers including delays, damage, and discrepancies
  • Communicates incoming shipment status to stakeholders.
  • Support other Departments on special logistic projects including non-standard shipments.
  • Negotiates and monitors rates and performance standards with carriers
  • Develops tools (i.e., database of HTS, etc) to assist with compliance
  • Trains and educates fellow employees involved in the process.
  • Monitors and executes CARM system payments.
  • Ensures that all recordkeeping is organized, complete, and in accordance with U.S. laws and regulations
  • Maintains current knowledge of import and export regulations including HAZMAT

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of international trade regulations, especially in the United States and Canada, import/export laws, and customs compliance requirements.
  • Timeliness: Job execution while “wheels up” transport is in process is essential.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong focus on accuracy and thoroughness, especially in documentation and compliance processes
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional ability to communicate complex regulatory requirements to internal teams in a clear, concise manner
  • Supplier Management Skills - Experience negotiating contracts and service agreements with Carriers.
  • Customer Broker License is preferred.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum Associates Degree and 3 to 5+ years of relevant experience in trade compliance as a broker, compliance specialist, logistics or supply chain professional. Knowledge of US regulations including 15 CFR, 19 CFR, EAR, CCL, HTTC, Schedule B and DOT HAZMAT
