Job Description:

JAS is an international, non-asset-based supply chain services and solutions company. Our services include air and ocean freight forwarding, contract logistics, customs brokerage, distribution, inbound logistics, truckload brokerage and other supply chain management services, including consulting, the coordination of purchase orders and customized management services.


This is a 10-Week Project-Based Internship, where you'll gain hands-on experience, work cross-functionally within local departments, branches, and other JAS offices around the globe. As an operations intern you will assimilate how international shipments and supporting data are planned, executed, managed, and monitored on various management levels.
This opportunity offers regular engagement with a wide array of stakeholders, to help foster a deep understanding of global logistics operations. Providing exposure and job shadowing in various JAS Departments including, but not limited to: Air/Ocean Freight, Import/Exports, Customs Brokerage, Warehousing, and Sales. Providing a wholistic understanding of the logistics industry while gaining valuable insights into the decision-making processes and strategic approaches of a global supply chain leader.

Project Scope:
AI-Driven Warehouse Optimization & Data Automation



This project aims to explore the potential for Artificial Intelligence (AI) to optimize warehouse operations and improve data migration, building on AI's existing use in customs brokerage. By examining how AI can streamline warehouse reporting, automate air freight documentation, and enhance dashboard functionality, this initiative seeks to reduce inefficiencies and improve overall accuracy.


Key objectives include automating data entry to update client reports and Google Sheet templates, streamlining air shipment documentation using C1, and digitizing processes to reduce paper usage. Additionally, the intern will enhance Power BI dashboards to improve functionality, clarity, and exception tracking. Resources include AI software, Power BI, Cargowise (C1), and database tools. Potential challenges may involve data quality in Cargowise system, addressing airline pushback, and managing staff participation due to time constraints.



Responsibilities



  • Hands-On Learning: Work directly within a local operational branch or corporate office to gain an understanding of JAS's international forwarding operations.


  • Software Exposure: Learn and actively perform tasks using CargoWise (C1), the leading software in the freight forwarding industry.


  • Cross-Functional Exposure: Shadow and collaborate with various JAS departments, including Air/Ocean Freight, Imports/Exports, Customs Brokerage, Warehousing, and Sales, to gain a holistic view of operations.


  • Business Process Management: Comprehend and contribute to tasks related to business process management and support strategic alignment across business rules and KPIs.


  • KPI Analysis: Assist in establishing metrics, conducting analysis, and generating reports to monitor performance and identify areas for improvement.


  • Leadership Engagement: Participate in regional management review calls and interact with senior leaders to gain insight into strategic decision-making.


  • Performance Reporting: Help create performance reports that provide actionable insights for operational improvement.


  • Supportive Functions: Gain exposure to related functions such as ISO standards, Sustainability initiatives, IT, Finance, and Sales.


  • Process Improvement: Research and propose innovative solutions for enhancing efficiency, with an emphasis on collaboration and alignment.


  • Project-Based Contribution: Lead a focused project designed to improve business processes, enhance operational efficiency, or refine data accuracy.





QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Enrolled as a RISING Junior or Senior in college with a minimum 3.0 GPA.


  • Preferred fields of study: Supply Chain Management, International Business, Business Administration, or Transportation & Logistics Management.



  • The ideal candidate for this project scope is someone that has a good mix of knowledge and experience within Supply Chain/Logistics and Information Systems/Technology.



  • Experience working with AI is a plus in this role.


  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with data analytics tools is a plus.


  • Strong analytical, organizational, and multitasking skills.


  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation abilities.


  • Self-motivated and capable of working both independently and in a team environment.


  • Fluent in English, with the ability to evaluate and resolve problems effectively.





In compliance with New York state law, we provide pay transparency for all job applicants. The pay range for this position is [$18-22] hourly, based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and the responsibilities of the role. The offered compensation will fall within this range, depending on individual qualifications and market conditions.
