Boeing Defense Space & Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Flight Technology Senior Manager (Level L) to join our Vertical Lift (VL) team. The position is located in Mesa, Arizona.

The Vertical Lift Flight Technology organization has employees at both the Ridley Park PA and Mesa AZ sites. It participates in all phases of the design, test, and support of the Boeing Vertical Lift programs such as the AH-64 Apache, AH-6 Little Bird, CH-47 Chinook, V-22 Osprey, MH-139 Grey Wolf, and various research and development programs, as well as supporting programs across the Boeing Enterprise such as Commercial Aircraft, Fixed Wing Fighters, Satellites, Space Launch Systems, and many others.

The Flight Technology organization performs design and analysis to ensure rotorcraft products meet performance, weights and balance requirements and have acceptable handling qualities, loads and dynamics characteristics using Boeing and industry standard state-of-the art tools, laboratory, wind tunnel, ground and flight tests.

In this position, you will lead Flight Technology engineering activities on Vertical Lift Division Attack Helicopter programs and also manage, develop, and motivate members of the VL Flight Technology team located at the Mesa Arizona site.

In the role you will develop and execute your team's project plans, shape departmental business and technical strategies, goals, objectives and implement key departmental policies and procedures. You will cultivate and maintain relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports. In addition to providing leadership for your assigned team members, you will collaborate with fellow Flight Technology managers to develop and motivate your combined teams to achieve excellence on multiple exciting and challenging projects.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Flight Technology Team on Vertical Lift Division Attack Helicopter programs, performing engineering and technical activities in Flight Performance and Aerodynamics including Computational Fluid Dynamics, Mass Properties Management, Aerothermal Engineering, Flight Simulation, Handling Qualities, Control Law Design, Loads and Dynamics, Wind Tunnel and Flight Testing.
  • Manage, develop and motivate members of the Vertical Lift Flight Technology Team based in Mesa Arizona
  • Develop and execute your team's project plans, provide input to help shape departmental business and technical strategies, goals, objectives, and implement key departmental policies and procedures.
  • Track and report earned value management (EVM) status and staffing projections for your team's engineering support to Attack Helicopter Program leadership.
  • Acquire resources for team activities and lead process improvements.
  • Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports.
  • Provide oversight and approval of technical approaches, products, tools and processes.
  • Provide technical leadership, participating at a detailed technical level in the development of solutions to domestic and FMS Attack Helicopter Programs and related research and development programs.


This position is expected to be 100% onsite.

Up to 10% travel is required: Domestically and/or Internationally depending on business needs.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in engineering
  • 8+ years experience in one or more of the following disciplines with the majority of that experience in rotorcraft applications: Flight Performance and Aerodynamics; Mass Properties; Aerothermal Engineering; Flight simulation and Handling Qualities; Loads and Dynamics.
  • 3+ years experience leading engineering teams


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • 15 years of rotorcraft experience in one or more of the following disciplines is highly desired: Flight Performance and Aerodynamics; Mass Properties; Aerothermal Engineering; Flight simulation and Handling Qualities; Loads and Dynamics
  • 8 years or more of experience leading engineering teams
  • Experience leading teams who are distributed across multiple locations
  • Project Management Skills: Knowledge of program management best practices, earned value management processes, risk management, engineering estimating and proposal preparation processes.
  • Knowledge of preliminary design and sizing process for rotorcraft.
  • Knowledge of wind tunnel and flight testing of rotorcraft.
  • Knowledge of applicable Military Specifications; Industry and Customer knowledge; Familiarity with rotorcraft industry including capabilities and products of Boeing and our competitors; In depth knowledge of capabilities, practices and resources of US DoD engineering organizations such as SRD and ADD.
  • Proven ability to resolve technical issues and capture R&D programs.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary pay range for Mesa, AZ: $154,700 - $ 209,300
