Are you enthusiastic about providing support to dental students, instructors, faculty, and residents and in delivering high-quality dental services?
The SIU School of Dental Medicine in Alton, IL seeks full-time qualified Dental Assistant II candidates.
The SIU School of Dental Medicine provides a range of treatments, cutting-edge dental therap i es, and individualized care in a modern and relaxed setting.
What You Will Do
Mentor and instruct dental assistant students, sharing expertise in the theory and practical aspects of dental assisting
Offer chairside assistance to dental students, faculty, or residents during procedures
Document patient medical and dental histories, and examination notes as directed by the dentist, student, or resident
Maintain the treatment area by preparing, cleaning, and disinfecting before and after each patient's appointment
Perform comprehensive data entry tasks within the clinical management software system
Prepare instruments and equipment for sterilization or disposing of them in accordance with the Infection Control/Hazard Control Policy
Ensure the accuracy of computer logs, documenting completed procedures, cancellations, broken appointments, and other progress forms as needed

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Any one of the following categories below:
Six (6 months) of work experience in dental assisting comparable to that performed at the Dental Assistant I level of this series.
Graduation from an accredited Dental Assisting School.
Current Certification as a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) by the Dental Assisting National Board, if required by the employing institution.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
Knowledge and techniques needed in dental procedures and medicine pertaining to dental assistance (e.g., knowledge of four-handed dentistry).
Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
Knowledge of computers to input data, access information, and/or create materials and documents using a variety of clinical software applications.
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
The ability to perform functions of administrative and clerical procedures managing files and records, designing forms, and managing inventory.
Skill in giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
Skill in interpersonal verbal and written communication.
Ability to build rapport with patients.
Ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
The ability to remain continuously on task for several hours while sitting, standing, or moving.
Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, confidentiality, and respect when speaking with patients, peers, faculty, and staff.
Ability to help patients feel comfortable before, during, and after dental procedures; communicates appropriately and positively to guide and re-assure patients.
Illinois Residency Requirement: Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, candidates must be a current Illinois resident.

International students at SIUE on F-1 or J-1 visas are not eligible for full-time or part-time civil service positions with permanent status. F-1 and J-1 visa holders must be enrolled full-time and can only apply for temporary part-time roles working 20 hours or less per week during spring and fall semesters, such as student worker positions, assistantships, and civil service extra help roles.
