Bachelor’s degree in meteorology or a related field from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama, two years of related experience, and possession of a valid driver’s license and maintenance of a driving record sufficient to maintain insurance coverage under the University of South Alabama. The University of South Alabama’s Earth Sciences Department is seeking to hire a Senior Mesonet Technician. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.
Essential Functions These are the job duties required of the position.
Essential Functions
Assists with the site selection and installation of new towers used to house weather instruments.
Installs and programs meteorological instrumentation and equipment on new weather stations.
Visits stations to perform regular and emergency maintenance and troubleshooting.
Maintains station grounds to include cutting grass and removing weeds and pests.
Maintains a log of stations visited and work performed.
Schedules trips as necessary which may sometimes require overnight travel.
Coordinates with the Mesonet Director to identify problems and develop solutions.
Troubleshoots potential issues while on-site and develops appropriate solutions.
Professionally represents the University of South Alabama Mesonet to contractors, clients, and partners.
Oversees student technicians when performing field work.
Ensures a safe and professional work environment in the field.
Safely operates power equipment to include mowers, weed trimmers, tools, and electric winches.
Briefs the Mesonet Director with the day-to-day maintenance needs of the Mesonet network.
Works with partners to communicate needs, products, and opportunities for both parties.
Utilizes Windows and Linux operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Workspace.
Operates university owned vehicles for site visits.
Regular and prompt attendance.
Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required.
Related duties as required.
