We are looking for an experienced Operations Engineer to join our fast growing startup in Chicago. As an Operations Engineer at RIDY, you will work closely with the founding team to ensure we achieve our fleet operational and organizational goals.
Role Overview
In the role of Operations Engineer at Ridy, you will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day management of our micromobility services. Your responsibilities will encompass ensuring the smooth operation of e-bikes, e-scooters, and charging stations and preparing for our launches nationwide. You will collaborate with field technicians for maintenance, oversee fleet operations, and lead customer fleet launches. Additionally, your role involves account management, developing new operational processes, working with our customer success team, and analyzing data to enhance operational efficiency.
Reporting to the leadership team, this role is based in our Chicago office and includes travel for fleet launches, customer events, and key meetings.
As an integral member of the Ridy team, you will be instrumental in maintaining seamless operations, from customer onboarding to fleet management. This role demands a combination of technical knowledge, logistical acumen, excellent communication skills, and analytical thinking, all aimed at optimizing operational effectiveness and ensuring customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
Fleet Maintenance, Operations & Support
Oversee all aspects of fleet maintenance, operations, and support to ensure maximum uptime.
Manage vehicle fleet operations, working with field mechanics on bikes, e-bikes, e-scooters, and charging stations maintenance.
Serve as the point of contact for customer issues, escalations, tracking, and resolution.
Perform bike, e-bike, e-scooter & station repairs and update maintenance documents.
Define and implement best practices for operational excellence and process efficiency.
Analyze maintenance and operations reports to inform business decisions.
Oversee technician scheduling and ensure timely service coverage.
Maintain structured and sufficient inventory of spare parts and track component usage.
Deploy workflows to streamline repairs and maintain 99+% fleet uptime.
Develop and refine SOPs to improve consistency, efficiency, and technician productivity.
Identify bottlenecks and implement scalable systems to support market expansion.
Ensure field technicians meet performance standards, providing support and escalation as needed.
Develop tools and tracking systems to enhance field operations and quality assurance.
Maintain key relationships with landlords, property managers, and field technicians.
Identify and manage supplier relationships for parts and materials.
Drive and operate Ridy's company vehicles for various operational needs.
Fleet Launches
Prepare and ship vehicles, parking racks and charging stations, coordinate with logistics for delivery.
Liaise with property teams for installation and setup.
Set up and manage the backend fleet on Ridy's dashboard.
Work with industrial and manufacturing teams for timely stations and vehicle assembly.
Oversee the equipment assembly process, ensuring high standards.
Lift and handle heavy objects for assembly and packing.
Pack and prepare vehicles and stations for shipping.
Ability to travel as needed to client sites and occasionally with short notice
Warehouse Management
Maintain inventory of parts and vehicles.
Arrange shipping for repairs and replacements.
Keep warehouse storage facilities orderly and accessible.
Manage equipment drop-offs and pickups.
Ensure safe charging and storage of bike and scooter batteries.
Communication
Communicate professionally across teams, vendors, technicians, and property stakeholders - especially in high-pressure situations.
Proactively escalate issues like delays, parts shortages, or field challenges to keep teams and clients informed.
Deliver clear, structured status updates to property managers and internal leadership.
Share timely updates on technician schedules, equipment arrivals, launch timelines, and service progress.

Qualifications
Key Qualifications
3-5 years of fleet operations, logistics, field service, or maintenance management experience; startup or hardware-as-a-service background preferred.
Demonstrative high agency mindset - takes initiative, drives progress independently, and is results-oriented
Strong project/task management, time management and coordination skills; comfortable juggling multiple priorities.
Data-driven mindset - can build reporting systems and monitor performance metrics.
Excellent communicator with the ability to deliver clear, structured updates across internal teams, vendors, technicians, and property stakeholders - especially under pressure.
Skilled at managing customer escalations with professionalism and empathy, proactively escalating issues, and ensuring all parties stay informed on schedules, timelines, equipment, and service progress.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
Knowledge of e-bike and e-scooter mechanics; experience in electronic equipment assembly and maintenance.
Ability to manage multiple projects with efficiency and meet deadlines.
Capable of lifting heavy objects (50-100lbs).
Proficient in using fleet management software, along with a strong command of MS Office, Google Workspace (including Google Docs, Gmail), and other task trackers/ticketing systems. Skilled in utilizing communication tools like Slack and customer support platforms such as Freshdesk.
Competent in data analysis and reporting for operational insights.
Possess a valid driver's license to operate Ridy's company vehicles for various operational needs.

Compensation and Benefits
Competitive salary package with a base salary of $55,000. Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
