Company Description

Kindle Education is an intentionally diverse public charter school that aims to cultivate an equitable community of purposeful individuals who are prepared to navigate our current world and build our future. We believe that a new model of school is required to meet the demands of the 21st century and we are excited to build it. We opened our doors to 66 6th grade students in the fall of 2023 in Jersey City, NJ. We will continue to add one grade of 66 students each year until we are a full 6th-12th grade school.

We are seeking a dynamic Director of High School Design with a Master's degree, at least 7 years of experience, and at least 2 years in school leadership (high school) with a demonstrated ability to achieve academic and social-emotional outcomes for students. This role will start July 1, 2024, and will report to the Co-CEO: School Leader of Programming.

Spark Change

Below is a brief overview, intended to be neither comprehensive nor binding. A flame is organic, never fixed, and we see the development of our school and team in the same way.

As the Director of High School Design at Kindle Education, you will collaborate with school leadership and the broader Kindle community to accomplish the following:

  • Academic Model: Engage in an iterative design process to create a competency-based academic framework that aligns with Kindle's student-driven, project-based, and community-oriented approach. Devise rigorous, real-world learning experiences, and arrange curriculum and instructional practices.
  • Culture & Student Experiences: Develop school culture systems, including defining events, celebrations, and traditions, as well as proactive supports, restorative accountability practices, and structures for recognizing student growth, excellence, and community contributions.
  • Operational Systems: Create daily procedures, transitions, attendance policies, advisory structures, and family engagement processes that support a seamless and well-run high school experience.
  • Post-Secondary Planning & Supports: Design the structures for college and career readiness, including pathways for post-secondary planning and frameworks for supporting students after graduation. Establish systems to track and refine post-graduation outcomes.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
  • Research best learning/culture practices locally and nationally to inform design.
  • Collaborate with middle school teams to ensure cohesive alignment of academics, culture, and operations across grades 6-12.
  • Coach a small group of middle school teachers (2-3) in coordination with the Middle School Director of Learning.
  • Continuously gather input to inform design and evolve the high school model.
  • Fulfill other tasks as assigned by the Co-CEOs.

Forge Futures

We are looking for a creative and adaptive self-starter who is eager to take on the challenge of cultivating an environment that prepares every child to navigate our current world and build our future. At Kindle, we:

  • Foster Innovation: Adapt teaching methods and curriculum to meet diverse learners' needs, incorporating innovative, student-centered teaching strategies.
  • Navigate Ambiguity: Embrace the challenges and opportunities of a startup environment, taking initiative in the face of ambiguity and contributing to the development of our evolving systems.
  • Set and Achieve Goals: Set clear, achievable goals, develop actionable plans, and track progress to ensure successful outcomes for our students.
  • Embrace Challenges: Take calculated risks and employ creative problem-solving strategies to generate outcomes for students.
  • Engage in Reflective Practice: Practice regular reflection and continuous learning for personal and professional development.
  • Collaborate and Lead: Work effectively in a collaborative environment, inspiring and motivating colleagues and students toward shared goals.
  • Promote Inclusivity: Create an inclusive and equitable learning environment that respects and values diversity.
  • Love fire puns!
