Nature of Work The Department of Public Works - Division of Water & Sewer is currently recruiting for summer internship positions for GIS Technician.
To support the Water & Sewer GIS staffing the development and maintenance of GIS data resources. Assist with data gathering and compilation to create, maintain, display, and update Geographic Information Systems databases. Examples of Duties

The list is not inclusive. A position may require related duties not listed, if necessary to accomplish the work of the department.
Produce accurate maps and other data for use by engineering and maintenance staff
Conduct field verification of assets to resolve conflicts of information and ensure the accuracy of data
Perform data entry of asset related information into Cityworks asset management system
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualification Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively on a team project
Ability to express ideas, information, and analysis is a clear and concise manner
Ability to communicate effectively with groups
Experience in ArcMap and Excel are preferred
EDUCATION:
To qualify, an applicant must be a college student entering the sophomore or a higher class in the Spring of 2024 and must be majoring in Engineering, GIS, Computer Science, or a closely related curriculum.
SAFETY:
Must comply with all Federal (OSHA), State of Maryland (MOSH), safety regulations, and applicable Harford County safety policies, procedures, or manual as required for this position.

PERSONAL LEAVE - For new employees, personal leave is prorated according to schedule below, for the first year only. Any employee on board as of December 31st of each year automatically receives 8 days as of January 1st the following year. (NOTE: Personal Leave may not be taken until successful completion of probationary period; personal leave will be lost if not taken before December 31st of each year.)

RETIREE HEALTH CARE INSURANCE BENEFITS-
Employees hired on or after 7/1/2010 will have an automatic Retirement Health Savings account made available as the primary retiree healthcare benefit. This 105(h) Universal Reimbursement Account will only be able to be accessed upon separation of service and/or retirement whichever applicable.
