Perform a variety of tasks associated with DMEPOS as directed by a physician. Assists with the efficient operation of the Excelsior Durable Medical Equipment Program. Fits and educates patients regarding proper care and use of braces, slings, cryo-therapy and other equipment. Monitors and maintains inventory of DME equipment and supplies.
Duties and Responsibilities
Fits and instructs patients regarding proper use of durable medical equipment (DME) products; responds to patient inquires and requests.
Verifies patients insurance to determine patients financial responsibility when applicable. Collects co-insurance or DME deposit based on pts insurance coverage. Obtains authorizations when necessary.
Inventory management- Assists to ensure adequate supply of all DME products; responsible for recording all DME productsdispensed viainventory management system.
Responsible for charge entry for all DME E-superbills including satellite offices and evening appointments.
Documents patients chart regarding DME fitting when appropriate.
Assist to coordinate with outside vendors for Bone Stimulators/dynamic bracing/traction units/TENS units/wound vacs.
Assure the internal customers have all necessary products for their needs, specifically surgeries.
Consults with physicians regarding patient DME productneeds. Informphysicians of changes/modifications to equipment or availability.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Athletic Training plus 2+ years experience in aneducational or clinical setting preferred
Related degree such as Exercise Science and/or related experience would be considered
Requires clinical skills and expertise in the treatment of patients with orthopedic conditions or injuries. Ability to fit, adjust and/or modify a wide range of DME productsused in orthopedic practice.
Knowledge of medical insurance claims procedures and documentation.
Excellent communication, organizational and business management skills required.
Physical Demands
Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Involves standing, walking, and kneeling. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.
Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risk, which require following basic safety precautions.
