Senior SQL Database Administrator at The Judge Group Inc. in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Salary: $50.00 USD Hourly - $60.00 USD Hourly

Description: Our client is currently seeking a Senior SQL Database Administrator who will be under general supervision of the Chief Information Officer to provides technical expertise in the design, implementation, and maintenance of relational database management systems (SQL and Oracle) that support institutional business applications. Ensures logical data models are mapped effectively and efficiently into physical data models that take advantage of the characteristics of the specific database management system used. Responsible for technically supporting multiple databases that run countywide business applications which are accessed by multiple departments.


This job will have the following responsibilities:

• Reviews, develops, and designs data models using standard diagramming techniques; creates logical data models and translates into physical database structures that integrate with existing or proposed database structures.

• Ensures strict confidentiality of all information and records.
  
  


• Maintains a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems; participates in professional development activities.
  
  


• Creates, procures and maintains various database related documents such as manuals and programmers handbooks.
  
  


• Maintains availability and integrity of databases through multiple access schemes; facilitates sharing of common data by overseeing proper key and index management and data dictionary maintenance. Evaluates and recommends testing of new database related procedures, software, and hardware. Monitors and manages database backups, logs, and journals; installs, maintains, and upgrades database software; restores and/or recovers data.
  
  


• Develops and manages multiple linked databases to include security, data safety and integrity, disaster recovery, and development and implementation of bulk data import/export procedures. Responsible for coordinating and managing technology projects of varying complexity, on time and within budget.
  
  


• Provides recommendations to applications analysts in the effective use of database languages; advises on troubleshooting, exception processing needs, and other data management issues.
  
  


• Monitors and maintains database security and software, in cooperation with systems administrators. Ensures support is provided to customers in a professional, courteous, and timely manner.
  
  


• Maintains multiple development, test and production database environments.
  
  


• Monitors relational databases to optimize database performance, resource use, and physical implementations of databases; addresses a variety of database integration issues including migration between disparate databases, integration, maintenance/conversion, capacity planning issues, and new applications.
  
  

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Database Design and Architecture: Involvement in the design and architecture of databases to ensure optimal performance, scalability, and reliability


• Data Migration: Planning and executing data migration projects, including upgrading databases to newer versions and migrating data between different database systems


• Monitoring and Maintenance: Regular monitoring of database performance and health, including the use of tools and scripts to automate maintenance tasks


• Security Management: Implementing and managing database security measures, including user roles, permissions, and encryption


• Experience: 5+ years of experience in database administration, particularly with SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL


• Database Programming: Proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL, T-SQL, or other database programming languages


• Performance Tuning: Strong skills in performance tuning and optimization of databases


• Backup and Recovery: Experience with backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery technologies


• Security: In-depth knowledge of database security and access control


• Cloud Experience: Familiarity with cloud database solutions and environments, such as AWS or Azure


• Scripting Languages: Proficiency with scripting languages like Python, Perl, or shell scripting


• Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills


• Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment


• Compliance and Auditing: Ensuring databases comply with industry standards and regulations, and conducting regular audits to maintain data integrity and security
