Job Summary & Job Duties
The Quality & Engineering Manager directs the engineering functions of the facility, managing resources as necessary to ensure the completion of engineering projects and tasks in a manner which best fulfills the organization's safety, quality, delivery, and efficiency goals; overseeing the creation and revision of quality standards for the organization and ensure that its employees and operational procedures meet these standards; as well as championing process-improvement initiatives, to satisfy regulatory and customers' requirements and expectations, with the following responsibilities:
Minimum Qualifications
The Quality & Engineering Manager directs the engineering functions of the facility, managing resources as necessary to ensure the completion of engineering projects and tasks in a manner which best fulfills the organization's safety, quality, delivery, and efficiency goals; overseeing the creation and revision of quality standards for the organization and ensure that its employees and operational procedures meet these standards; as well as championing process-improvement initiatives, to satisfy regulatory and customers' requirements and expectations, with the following responsibilities:
• Manage the site's Quality Management System, maintain ISO 9001 certification, and ensure compliance to this standard, including preparing for audits.
• Champion safety programs and enforce compliance with workplace safety standards.
• Lead and mentor the manufacturing engineering team to ensure effective performance.
• Manage team members' professional development by providing guidance and training.
• Utilize Lean, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies to reduce waste and enhance production capabilities.
• Identify areas of opportunity and develop plans for long-term improvements.
• Manage engineering projects related to process improvements, new product introductions, and facility upgrades; including monitoring and reporting related Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
• Act as key contact with customers: responsible for ensuring execution of corrective actions and ongoing compliance with customers specifications.
• Prepare performance reports for relevant stakeholders, including management team and customers.
• Review and approve manufacturing processes on new contracts, review new contracts for manufacturability, and communicate with customers as necessary to resolve any manufacturability issues.
• Review and approve all customer-supplied drawings prior to release for production and initiate the appropriate corrective actions with the customer in the event of an error or discrepancy.
• Review and approve vendor instructions for outside processing of manufactured goods.
• Develop procedures and work instructions for the Engineering and Quality Control staffs.
• Provide technical support to the production floor to address any issues related to Machines, tooling, or production methods.
• Troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing challenges to minimize downtime.
• Oversee the investigation and resolution of customer complaints regarding technical or quality issues.
• Collaborate with external vendors and suppliers to ensure that they meet quality standards.
• Ensure site quality records are current and accurate based on internal processes.
• Oversee product identification and traceability activities.
• Maintain systems at NxEdge for continuous improvement of quality issues (i.e. MRBs, CARs, scrap and quality escapes reported).
• Define inspection criteria based on statistical analysis for all areas of operations.
• Oversee training, skill professional development, performance evaluation, salary adjustment, and all disciplinary actions for the Engineering staff and Quality staff.
• Ensure all employees wear necessary PPE and follow all safety policies.
• Make sure employees are taking their breaks & meal periods according CA labor laws.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree.
• Three years of supervisory experience in Manufacturing Engineering and/or Quality Management, preferably in the Semiconductor industry.
• In depth knowledge of CNC Machining, and fabrication processes (hands on experience preferred).
• Experience in GD&T and SPC is required
• Demonstrate In-depth understanding of engineering practices, quality control, and customer satisfaction.
• Be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Have good negotiating and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrate an ability to manage and supervise staff.
• Experience with ISO 9001, or similar ISO requirements.
• Experience with 6-sigma / DMAIC initiatives.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Sound organizational skills.
• Experience with semiconductor capital equipment parts is a plus
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Exposure to shop elements such as noise, dust, and chemicals, with protective equipment provided as needed.
• Ability to remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
• Regular walking, bending, and moving about the facility to supervise work conditions and interact with staff.
• Must be able to lift/pull/push up to 35 pounds.
• Must be able to wear the necessary PPE (safety glasses, safety shoes, ear plugs, etc.)
