Postdoctoral Research Associate in Financial Accounting

We seek a full-time postdoctoral research associate to work on financial accounting projects with Dr. Nerissa Brown, Professor of Accountancy and Associate Dean of Graduate Programs at Gies College of Business, University of Illinois, starting in fall 2025. The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Brown on research topics spanning financial reporting, corporate disclosure, labor accounting, and behavioral archival topics. The postdoctoral research associate will also engage with a strong and vibrant community of accounting scholars at Gies College of Business. The position is expected to last 1 year and may be renewable for a second year, conditional on funding availability and satisfactory performance in the initial year.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in accounting or related field by the start of the position or soon after
Advanced training in econometrics, empirical archival methods, and causal inference methods
Strong programming skills in Stata, SAS, R, Python, or similar software
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with financial reporting and capital markets databases
Experience in textual analytics, machine learning, and Gen AI coding techniques
Experience in behavioral archival research and working in interdisciplinary teams
Strong writing and communication skills
Essential Functions:
Collaborate on research; priorities will be set in conversation with Dr. Nerissa Brown
Curate and analyze data, such as non-GAAP financial metrics
Support research activity through RA supervision, grant writing, etc.
Contribute to the research goals of the Department of Accountancy
Actively participate in intellectual life at Gies and the University of Illinois
Work to promote teamwork and collegiality
Work Schedule: Standard schedule is Monday-Friday, 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week. Occasional flexibility in schedule may be required for research events, conferences, or other activities.
Appointment Status: This is a 100% full-time Academic position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after August 16, 2025. The budgeted salary range for this position is $60,000-$75,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
