Job Description:




The Environmental Studies Program at Binghamton University, State University of New York invites applications for a full-time lecturer position in environmental studies or science beginning in Fall 2025 for an appointment of up to three years, with the possibility of renewal.




We seek a scholar who can teach students about the challenges of the human-nature interface. Our preferred instructor will have a background in coupled human and natural systems, a central focus of Environmental Studies Program. Our new colleague will be able to teach introductory environmental science / studies courses, upper-level courses in their area of expertise, and project-based capstone classes. This is a teaching focused position with a load of three courses per semester.




The Environmental Studies Program places high value on practice-based instructional methods, which take a wide variety of forms including but not exclusive to labs and field-based research, project-driven classes, course-based research experiences, and community-engaged learning. We also value experimental or innovative instructional methods.




The Environmental Studies Program values evidence of advancing equity and inclusion through teaching. The Program is working to increase diversity amongst its faculty. Members of groups historically underrepresented in the field and those from non-traditional backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

Binghamton University's campus offers a variety of natural areas for ecological exploration in research and teaching with the 190-acre Nature Preserve, which includes a 20-acre wetland, and 137-acre Nuthatch Hollow encompassing woodland, stream, scrubland, and grassland habitats. Additionally, environmental studies students and faculty regularly engage regional, national, and international non-profit organizations, governments, and businesses in roles as researchers, consultants, and interns.






Requirements:





Required:





  • Ph.D. in environmental science, or related field, required by August 18, 2025

  • Experience teaching undergraduate courses in environmental studies or science





Preferred:





  • Experience teaching upper-level, project-based undergraduate courses

  • Experience teaching large enrollment courses

  • Evidence of teaching that is oriented toward advancing equity and inclusion

  • Ability to support undergraduate research opportunities through courses and individual mentorship

  • Experience developing and delivering innovative instructional methods
