The Longmeadow Department of Public Works is seeking a FT Seasonal Engineering Assistant: 40 hours per week. The Seasonal Engineering Assistant is responsible for inspecting construction projects and preparing record plans for road, sewer, water, and drainage work either by in-house staff or contractors; investigates water, sewer, and drainage complaints; prepares estimates and obtains price quotes for construction projects.
Successful candidate must have:
Knowledge of relevant Massachusetts General Laws related to essential functions. Elementary knowledge of computer aided drafting and related software. Knowledge of engineering and construction inspection techniques and practices. Knowledge of site survey, construction survey, and staking.
Ability to multi-task and manage conflict. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain good public relations and to maintain effective collaborative working relationships with Town departments, department heads, fellow employees, officials and the general public and to respond in a courteous and professional manner. Ability to meet deadlines. Ability to work independently and make responsible decisions.
Strong communication and organizational skills, problem-solving skills and customer service skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; some familiarity with GPS/GIS equipment and programs.
Associates degree or equivalent, and 1 year of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience. Valid driver's license.
Salary $16.92 per hour DOE/DOQ, no benefits
Monday - Friday 7:00AM to 3:00 PM
Position runs through end of August 2025
