Hiring range: Facilities Engineer I: $50,897 to $59,800 ($24.47 to $28.75 per hour). Facilities Engineer II: $57,262 to $67,288 ($27.53 to $32.35 per hour).

Position Description
Are you detail oriented? Do you like to problem-solve to ensure equipment is working effectively and efficiently? Facilities Engineers have a new and different work environment every day and perform a variety of maintenance and repair tasks for the safety, comfort, security, and beautification of facilities County-wide. The Facilities Engineer positions are stable with constant work that is performed during a 40-hour workweek. The travel is limited to the boundaries of Anoka County, and you will be home for dinner.
The Facilities Engineer I possesses beginning-to-working knowledge of subject matter, handles basic issues and problems associated with facilities engineering, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff; assists with the repair and maintenance of a variety of equipment necessary for the operation of county facilities; performs work under direct supervision.
The Facilities Engineer II possesses solid working knowledge of the subject matter, handles moderately complex issues and problems associated with facilities engineering, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff; repairs and maintains a variety of equipment necessary for the operation of county facilities; performs work under general supervision.
Our Facilities Engineers experience variety on the job while working in a team environment. Our team is hands-on with building automation systems. 2025 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 28: $50,897 to $68,702 ($24.47 to $33.03 per hour).
Facilities Engineer II Salary: $57,262 to $67,288 ($27.53 to $32.35).
2025 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 30: $57,262 to $77,292 ($27.53 to $37.16).

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Assist with the operation, repair, and maintenance of stationary facilities
Perform preventative maintenance while minimizing disturbance, inconvenience, and risk, and accurately document completed procedures and records of equipment testing results.
Perform preventative maintenance, basic troubleshooting and repairs as needed.
Repair and replace faulty electrical equipment.
Maintain piping and drain systems, clean and snake drains, repair and replace plumbing fixtures, flush-o-meters, faucets, leaking pipes, and drains.
Ensure doors and door hardware are in good working order, and repair or replace these as needed.
Perform periodic maintenance on air compressors, fans, pumps, and outdoor equipment.
Record boiler readings, water temperatures, and usage, and perform troubleshooting and repair problems.
Repair, move, maintain, and customize office furnishings and equipment.
Respond to and maintain alarms related to facilities safety.

Repair and replace faulty electrical equipment including lighting fixtures, bulbs and ballasts, electrical receptacles, and switches, exit lighting, emergency lighting, and related equipment.
Maintain piping and drain systems, clean and snake drains, repair and replace plumbing fixtures, flush-o-meters, faucets, leaking pipes, and drains.
Ensure doors and door hardware are in good working order.
Perform periodic maintenance on air compressors, fans, pumps, and outdoor equipment.
Perform annual boiler inspections and cleanings and ensure safe operation and maintenance.
Repair, move, maintain, and customize office furnishings and equipment.
Respond to and maintain alarms related to facilities safety.
Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed
Facilities Engineer I:
Requires accreditation from a technical school or applicable trades
Ability to operate HVAC equipment, and hand and power tools
Ability to commit to an after-hours on-call team rotation; 1-hour response time required
Ability to use Computer Maintenance Management and Building Automation computer software
Second Class Boiler's License
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed
CFC Universal Certification
HVAC Certification
Knowledge of state and local building and safety codes and OSHA safety standards
Strong oral and written communication skills
Excellent customer service skills
Ability to prioritize and manage deadlines
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
Standard office environment, and outdoor work sites in all weather conditions depending on assignment
Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades and brightness
Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds
Ability to detect, discern, and tolerate a wide range of scents required for safety and performance of essential duties

Assignments require several hours of varied physical activity in addition to viewing a computer screen, sitting at a desk, or walking/standing

Regular lifting of 0-25 lbs., occasional lifting of up to 75 lbs.
Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment in addition to maintenance equipment depending on assignment
Maintenance equipment may include but is not limited to ladders, shovels, power saws, drills, routers, grinders, wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, sewer augers, pipe threaders, pumps, scaffolding, hand and power tools, vacuum, brooms, floor buffers and scrubbers and other floor cleaning equipment, pallet jacks, push/pull carts, chemicals, and personal protective equipment
Occasional travel to other county work sites as needed
Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle
Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, prolonged vibration from machinery, and other hazards is possible while performing essential duties
