The department of Internal Medicine at Meharry Medical College is hiring for 2 chief resident positions beginning Jul 1, 2025. The position is considered a junior faculty position and provides direct leadership roles for the residents and core residency faculty: program director & associate program director, and department chairman.


The department of Internal Medicine at Meharry Medical College is hiring for 2 chief resident positions beginning Jul 1, 2025. The position is considered a junior faculty position and provides direct leadership roles for the residents and core residency faculty: program director & associate program director, and department chairman.


The chief residents work as a team to provide leadership and support of the key missions of the residency program and function as mentors and advocates for the residents. While each chief has separate responsibilities at their primary site (Murfreesboro VA Medical Center, Nashville General Hospital), the camaraderie among the chiefs sets a positive tone for the program and allows us to accomplish the many goals we set for the year.


In addition, chief residents have been responsible for working with the program director to organize morning report, the noon conference series, resident monthly schedule changes and developing resident wellness programming and evaluating patient flow on the general medicine services at NGH & the VA affiliate sites.


The position is one of distinction, professionalism and leadership serving as an example for other house staff.


Assist the program director with all delegated administrative duties, including, but not limited to:

• Strong leadership and clinical skills are required.

• Scheduling

• Evaluations

• Conference planning and execution

• Resident interviews

• Teaching

• Scholarly activities

• Faculty development

• Serve as a liaison between resident and faculty when appropriate.

• Report cases of serious personal or disciplinary problems to the residency program director and appropriate faculty members

• Collect feedback from residents regularly to understand challenges that are preventing them from performing duties effectively

• Teach and train residents on various aspects of clinical practices, including diagnosis and in-patient care

• Perform clinical duties based on the needs of the program

• Must have a MD/DO degree

• Candidates must be licenses or be eligible to be licensed in the State of Tennessee
