Job Description:

This is a fully remote role with a CULTURE FIRST company! You must live on the East Coast/EST time zone. The client will not and cannot sponsor, and this is a hands-on leader over a small but highly talented DevOps engineering team that supports a massive SaaS platform used by some of the biggest brands around the globe.

We're looking for a highly dynamic, hands-on leader to take ownership of our DevOps engineering function-someone who thrives in both strategic and technical roles. This is not a traditional director-level position where leadership is limited to high-level oversight. We need someone who can roll up their sleeves, architect solutions, dive into engineering when necessary, and lead by doing.

You will own and shape the technical vision for our infrastructure, automation, and cloud operations while also managing a team of engineers, optimizing costs, and developing key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure success. If needed, you'll dig into system failures, optimize CI/CD pipelines, or contribute to architecture decisions-whatever it takes to ensure our platform remains scalable, reliable, and secure.

This is an ideal opportunity for experienced managers or senior managers looking to take the next step into a director-level position.

What You'll Be Doing

Technical Strategy & Execution
  • Define and execute the technical vision for monitoring, alerting, and automation across Intellum's platform.
  • Architect and optimize infrastructure for scalability, security, and high availability in a cloud-first environment.
  • Drive innovation by implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation, and CI/CD pipeline improvements.
  • Troubleshoot complex system failures, ensuring rapid incident response and minimal downtime.
  • Evaluate and implement cost-efficient cloud solutions to reduce spending while maximizing performance.

Hands-On Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead by example-be ready to dive into technical challenges, mentor engineers, and foster technical excellence.
  • Develop and mentor a high-performing systems engineering team, ensuring growth, career development, and ownership.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for coding, testing, and operational readiness.
  • Cultivate a culture of automation, reliability, and continuous improvement.

Operational & Business Impact
  • Own and manage the budget for cloud infrastructure and tooling, making strategic investments to maximize value.
  • Define and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure success, efficiency, and system reliability.
  • Collaborate with security, development, and sales teams to ensure compliance and support business needs.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends, researching new technologies and best practices to keep our platform competitive.

What We're Looking For

Must-Have Skills & Experience
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), with a deep understanding of building and maintaining scalable, secure, and high-performance systems.
  • 5+ years of experience leading and managing teams in DevOps, or SRE, with a focus on mentorship and technical growth.
  • Strong system and devops architecture background, with experience optimizing performance, security, and scalability in a SaaS environment.
  • Hands-on expertise in cloud computing (AWS/GCP), Linux administration, and infrastructure automation (Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines).
  • Proficiency in scripting (Ruby or Python etc), with a strong grasp of agile development and DevOps principles.
  • Experience managing incident response, troubleshooting complex system failures, and designing resilient architectures.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and collaboration skills, thriving in a remote-first, fast-moving environment.
  • Highly organized and data-driven, with a strong ability to execute, deliver results, and measure impact.

Nice-to-Have Skills & Experience
  • Experience working on high-performance, customer-facing SaaS platforms handling massive data loads.
  • Background in managing multi-cloud environments (AWS & Google Cloud).
  • Familiarity with security frameworks, compliance standards, and customer-facing technical inquiries.
  • Experience with Kubernetes would be great; they're looking to bring this in but don't have any experience in-house with it!

Why Join Us?

If you're a technically sharp, hands-on leader looking to drive impact, own technical decisions, mentor a team, and shape the future of our infrastructure, this role is for you.

We're excited to bring on a pragmatic, sleeves-rolled-up leader who thrives at the intersection of technology, leadership, and business strategy. If that's you-let's talk!
