Traveling Biomedical Equipment Specialists are responsible for:
RTI International is seeking part time Traveling Biomedical Equipment Specialists Drivers (BMES) on the NHANES Project.
The Data Practice area within the Social, Statistical & Environmental Sciences (SSES) at RTI International has future openings for part-time Traveling Biomedical Equipment Specialists (BMES) for the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey project (NHANES), sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). NHANES involves in-person household interviews and health examinations conducted in a Mobile Examination Center (MEC).
The BMES will be primarily responsible for driving the MECs to study locations (stands), placement, leveling and set up the vehicles for the start of data collection at a stand, utility hookups, vehicle inspections and vehicle maintenance, QA, inspection, maintenance, and calibration of the medical equipment inside the MECs, and vehicle closeout at each stand. Equipment for the following clinical exams will be housed in the MECs: blood pressure, anthropometrics, hearing, vision, spirometry, dental, osteoporosis, and biospecimen collection and processing. The BMES will oversee equipment and supply inventories for the MEC and all exams.
As a member of the small team, the position will be cross trained to complete limited data collection activities within their scope and qualifications (i.e., assist in collecting body measurements, audiometry or vision measurements, record oral health assessment), and may be required to assist laboratory staff in the preparation of specimen shipments.
This position requires full-time continuous travel for up to 40 weeks a year, with the potential for more, and for the BMES to maintain the MECs and the medical equipment inside in safe and working conditions. In addition to the certifications and qualifications below, the candidate must be available to work a minimum of 40 hours per week while on travel, including evenings and weekends and be willing to commit to work for at least 1 year. The BMES will attend project training and be supervised by a Biomedical Engineer.
