Associate Director of State and Local Relations at Habitat for Humanity in Washington, Washington DC

Job Description:

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is seeking an Associate Director of State and Local Relations. The Associate Director of State and Local Relations will support Habitat's advocacy priorities by building the capacity of the affiliated network in the U.S. to have greater influence on state and local housing policy, focusing on issues impacting homeownership supply, access, and resilience. The Associate Director of State and Local Relations will provide technical assistance, training, and peer learning opportunities to the Habitat network on relevant state and local housing policy solutions, track state and local legislation and policy trends, develop policy tools and resources, and verify and report on network advocacy impact metrics, among other duties. The position is a member of HFHI's Government Relations and Advocacy Team, based in Washington, D.C.



Essential Duties:




**Support network state and local policy and government relations: 50%

o Strategically support Habitat affiliates and Habitat affiliate support organizations (ASOs) in state and local policy advancement through research and analysis.
o Provide guidance and technical assistance to U.S. Habitat organizations on state and local government relations strategy.
o Facilitate communities of practice among members of the Habitat affiliated network to enable peer sharing and learning.
o Create and update off the shelf tools and resources for affiliates and ASOs to build their knowledge state and local housing policy solutions and support dissemination.
o Train affiliates and ASO personnel at state conferences, on webinars, at Habitat on the Hill, and at state legislative days on relevant state and local policy issues, trends, and strategies.



**Track advocacy metrics and policy trends: 30%

o Manage the analysis and verification of advocacy outcomes reported by Habitat affiliates in the quarterly
Affiliate Statistical Report to monitor and measure the impact of the U.S. network's advocacy efforts.
o Develop quarterly and annual impact reports that serve as tools for peer and sector learning.
o Monitor and analyze trends in state and local legislation, laws, elections, and regulations affecting affordable
housing and Habitat affiliated organizations.



**Support efforts to increase the advocacy capacity of the Habitat network: 15%

o Assist and respond to needs of Habitat affiliated organizations in creating, leading, and participating in state
and local legislative campaigns to address issues impacting affiliates' ability to serve families.
o Support the application process, dissemination, selection, and monitoring of network advocacy grants and other
funding opportunities provided through Habitat Voices in Action. o Support the content development and execution
of Habitat on the Hill and other Habitat Voices in Action events.



**Support organizational priorities through departmental and cross departmental engagement: 5%




Minimum Requirements:



o Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
o Years of Related Experience: 7+



Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
o Demonstrated state and local public policy experience.
o Knowledge of affordable housing and/or community development public policies and programs.
o Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
o Excellent interpersonal and relational skills, and ability to build collaborative relationships.
o Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, sometimes managing others' engagement in projects.
o Desire to contribute to a collaborative and high performing team. o Strong computer experience and comfortable working with excel datasets.



Preferred Requirements (in addition to minimum):

• Previous experience with the Habitat for Humanity network or another affiliated network

• Master's degree in related field

The actual salary offered for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including location, internal equity and the candidate's qualifications and professional experience. HFHI offers a competitive, comprehensive benefits package that varies by country and typically includes vacation leave, sick leave, personal days, health insurance options, retirement plan contributions and life insurance. For work locations in the US, the hiring range for this position is $86,700 to $102,000.


Staff hired on a hybrid basis in the United States near an HFHI office location (Atlanta, Georgia / Washington, DC and Americus, GA), are required to report to the office on Tuesdays.
