The Team

Alvarez & Marsal Tax is looking for a Senior Associate to join our growing Federal Tax practice. Our Federal Tax team specializes in providing corporate tax consulting and compliance services to multinational public and private companies, bringing value by maximizing cash tax savings, optimizing corporate tax profiles, and mitigating potential tax risks.

The key area of focus for this Senior Associate would be to work with a team to design and implement corporate reorganizations and transactions. An ideal candidate would have strong business acumen and critical thinking to assist in finding practical business solutions for our clients.

How you will contribute

As a Senior Associate within A&M Tax Federal Tax practice, you will:


  • Analyze and process different datasets and documents, including but not limited to tax returns and elections, legal entity organizational charts, financial statements, fixed asset registers and tax depreciation schedules, purchase and sale agreements, due diligence reports, transaction and restructuring slide decks, tax policies, technical memoranda, transfer pricing documentation, intercompany agreements, accounting data, and valuation reports, in order to develop various tax deliverables;

  • Assist with the design and implementation of business reorganizations, legal entity rationalizations, and business transactions designed by A&M or by other client advisors, by developing workplans, monitoring the status of action items and driving their completion, drafting follow-up notes to various parties involved in the project, preparing or reviewing tax calculations and filings, and reviewing legal documentation pertaining to the project;

  • Document facts, assumptions and tax implications surrounding any proposed tax planning, restructuring, or rationalization in the form of memorandums, notes to Excel spreadsheets, emails, or PowerPoint presentations;

  • Work with a multidisciplinary and multijurisdictional team to facilitate the preparation and initial review of various deliverables;

  • Mentor Associates and Interns when they are supporting the same projects by delegating appropriate tasks, ensuring they complete tasks efficiently and sharing best practices;

  • Monitor status of assigned tasks and communicate their progress to the project team on a timely manner;

  • Conduct and review research and analysis of a wide range of tax issues related to federal corporate tax, business transactions, reorganizations, restructuring and tax implications of financing techniques for a variety of entities and their affiliates;

  • Assist with tax compliance, including tax provision, tax extension and tax return preparation and review;

  • Interface with client to obtain information and deliver a high-quality work product on time and on budget;

  • Network internally and with existing and prospective clients, to build and enhance relationships and identify potential opportunities to bring value to clients; and

  • Assist with business development, by creating business development resources and proposal materials.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in accounting

  • 2+ years of relevant experience in federal taxation and/or corporate tax consulting

  • CPA or Licensed Attorney (or in the process of pursuing)

  • Intermediate to advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills

  • Strong communication, writing and presentation skills and ability to articulate complex information in plain English

  • Strong analytical and research skills and ability to understand and effectively apply tax concepts to client situations

  • Detail-oriented, with strong organizational and project management skills

  • Strong business development skills and proactive and positive attitude

  • High motivation to learn and grow

  • Ability to work in a dynamic, time-sensitive environment, on multiple projects at the same time

The salary range is $85k - $105k annually, dependent on several variables including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography. In addition, A&M offers a discretionary bonus program which is based on a number of factors, including individual and firm performance. Please ask your recruiter for details.
