Job Title: Mainframe IMS Application Database Administrator




Duration: Long term contract




Location: Remote (Work from Home)




Key Responsibilities:

• Administer mainframe IMS databases: performance monitoring, tuning, backup, recovery, troubleshooting.


• Proficient with DBRC/RECONS, List reports, forward recoveries, and actual database recoveries.


• Knowledgeable of IBM IMS and vendor utilities.


• Create, modify, and maintain IMS database descriptions.


• Support application teams with IMS database issues in development, acceptance, and production environments.


• Refresh Dev/Test databases with production backup images.


• Coordinate testing of mainframe software upgrades and Disaster Recovery plans.


• Provide technical support for Mainframe Production Control and Support Jobs.


• Support application development by creating and maintaining deployment procedures and environments.


• Provide technical assistance to programmers and operations personnel.


• Provide after-hours support for nightly batch mainframe schedules.

Minimum Skills/Experience:

• 7+ years with z/OS Systems platform.


• 5+ years with mainframe IMS database administration.


• 5+ years with DBRC and forward recoveries.


• 7+ years with basic z/OS utilities (TSO, SYSVIEW/SDSF, JSF, IDCAMS, IEBGENER, IEFBR14).


• 5+ years with Batch and CICS Cobol, IMS programming, and problem resolution.


• 5+ years developing and troubleshooting complex JCL.


• 5+ years with JCL, CICS, VSAM, and TSO.


• 2+ years writing, analyzing, and debugging REXX programs in z/OS.


• 2+ years with IMS HAL databases and IMS Catalog.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

• 5+ years with Top Secret setup, administration, and reporting.


• 2+ years maintaining mainframe printer assignments (IPPrintway).


• 3+ years with ISPF panels, skeletons, and REXX code.


• 3+ years with ISMF storage functions.


• Working knowledge of batch SFTP and FTPS processing.


• Working knowledge of Informatica Power Exchange software using mainframe datasets (IMS and VSAM).


• Experience with logically related application IMS databases.
